posticon Blue Mountains/Yerranderie overnight trek 16/17 April 2005

Peter and I are trying to organise an overnight excursion to the Blue Mountains/Yerranderie.

Good drive for the Xtrail. Little more difficult than Nowra, Yango or Watagans but has been done in an Xtrail before (not me, someone else, and I have only managed a part of the trip, see link below)...

The trek is described in the 4WD Treks Around Sydney (although the Yerranderie part is a detour not mentioned in that trek notes). The Blue Mountains drive portion of it is fantastic, IMHO.

You also get to listen to Pete recount his 4WD adventures by the campfire over a beer or three! emoticon

Register your interest at Peter's Australia4WD forum at this thread. Only a couple of weekends away, so be quick!

I'd love to, but I just washed and polished my Exy LOL =D

Just kidding of course.

I wont be able to make this time guys, as I've got a lot of family events coming-up, but I would have loved to test-try my new tent which I didn't end-up using at Stockton emoticon

Have fun and looking forward to some pics and videos emoticon

Aah, don't forget to leave that area early in the morning on your way back to Sydney. That's of course if you don't want to beat my trip record of 7 hours emoticon

Love to come, but we've got alot of bills (including an unexpected red light camera fine emoticon ) so money is abit tight at the moment (I know it's probably only petrol costs for the weekend/trip, but it all adds up when unexpected fines arrive!)

Re: Blue Mountains/Yerranderie overnight trek 16/17 April 2005

Can someone please point me to where I can get a copy of the "4WD Treks Around Sydney" that you mentioned. Is this a book I can buy?

I'd really like to know what 4wd tracks people have done safely in an x-trail in the Blue Mountains area.

Thanks,
BlueMtnsExy.

I bought mine from a shop in Bathurst, but can't remember what shop it was emoticon

I'm sure any camping accessories stores would carry it, or somewhere you can buy maps from would also have it...

You may also be able to buy it online: http://www.boilingbilly.com.au is the publisher, but I couldn't find that particular book on their website (maybe they're out of print?).

I have seen it at other shops, though (Boots @ Caringbah has it I think?!).

Thanks for the link Basshead. I found another website that said the book is indeed out of print. There seem to be several online stockists, but I'll try some local bookshops first.

I bought my copy at one of the large bookshops (Dymocks or Angus & Robertson, can't remember exactly) but I have also seen the book being sold at Ray's Outdoors (Camperdown), Boots Camping Shop (Lidcombe) and The Map Shop (Pitt St).

I would suggest ringing the nearest Dymocks type store near your way...

BlueMtnsExy.

It is getting harder to find a copy, but I was talking to the authors on the weekend and they are currently out redoing the treks and also looking to indicate awd friendly ones.
I have a list somewhere in this forum of what I have done in the xtrail (cant find it) but if you have a look at this Topic thread
we have going you can find my trips and a bit more about the book, a few of the current tripsin the book have areas closed off

Pete

Added Edit, I just remembered I think the thread on here was "trail baggers" on page 1. Also another good book is Gregory's 4wd weekends - 50 short trips in qld, nsw and vic by John an Jan Tait

I typed "baggers" in the search engine and it came up with this:

http://com1.runboard.com/baustralianxtrail.fmainchat.t15

I have to add to it so it'll be bumped to the top of the list now...
