Nowra Meet Up June 2004 (OLD)

I have had a chat with Geoff and I recommend Sunday 27 June (2nd pref Sat 26) if anyone is interested in doing the South Coast trip with me.
The plan would be to meet at approx 9.15 at the picnic area along Seven Mile beach. I will have coffee and tea waiting. After a general intro and some points about convoy procedures we will depart 9.30. We then drive as a group through Nowra and then out to Braidwood Road.
During the day the tracks will generally be of an easy standard, with a couple of places requiring careful negotiation - but I have taken trails along it many times. There is one creek crossing, pretty dry at the moment. Along the way we will stop at a few lookouts and rock formations and a good spot for lunch.
Along the way I can provide some 4wding famil training, such as wheel placement, gear selection, pre-trip inspections and river crossing hints. I can’t train anyone in snatch recoveries though, because of the requirements of the training code.
What to bring?
1. A full tank of petrol (you wont need jerry cans)
2. Yourselves and Family
3. Camera.
4. UHF radio. But if you don’t have one let me know and I can supply a handheld.
5. Lunch. Recommend pre-pack sanga's ect, and drinks
6. Recovery gear if you have it. If you don’t - no problems as that what I will supply if needed.
7. I will provide coffee, tea and hot water.

We should finish up between 3 and 4.30 (depends how much we stop and chat)

Admin. As I said I have to charge $55(includes GST )to cover myself for insurance and for trip notes. You can pay on the day (over lunch) by cash, cheque or card (no amex). If paying by card happy to arrange payment earlier if needed. On arrival I will need to get you to sign a liability form for drivers (supplied on day)

If you are keen to come, please submit a response here. If you can let me know:
1. Preferred date (will finalise on Thursday)
2. How many people coming
3. First or preferred names of your crew. I can then make a list to hand out to help with intros during the day.
4. If you need a radio.

You do not need any 4WD experience. Quite often we run this trip for first timers and I can help you through. Additionally it isn’t the type of track that will damage your car (but I cant guarantee that). I am actually going to drive over the route the day before just to make sure there are no new obstacles etc, that’s why I prefer to run it on the Sunday.

Cheers and hope to see everyone.
Peter

Re: Meet Up June 2004

At this stage I think we'd (Clare and I) be coming...

Perhaps we could arrange for a Sydney meeting point some time in the morning...

Perhaps around Sutherland or near the entry to the Royal National Park? emoticon

Re: Meet Up June 2004

Great
The reason I recommend meeting down the coast is is gives people the flexibilty to drive down and do other things such as petrol and breky.
For me I think I will go down the day before, so I can just run over the track to make sure there are no blockages (fallen trees) and visit some friends

Re: Meet Up June 2004

I'm a 80% chance of being there. Just got to convince the mrs that its alright to go away for the 3rd weekend in a row.

Peter, is it possible to post a map of the meet point so no one gets lost?

Re: Meet Up June 2004

Ok, I'm 100% in. Looks like a good turnout peter!

Off topic, but I've revamped the main site which now includes a forum top 5 threads, and an created an events sub-forum where people can post meet-ups like this (or just any event of interest eg 4x4 shows) and it will get picked up automatically on the main site.
