Re: Windscreen Replacement

I had to replace my windscreen about 12 months ago.

I rang around numerous places at Bathurst Orange & Cowra and was surprised at the large variation between prices. Some stated I had to replace seals others said no.

I ended up at O'Briens agent in Bathurst (they all seem to be franchised) who fitted a screen branded "Australian Auto Glass" and reused the existing seals. The cost from memory was $240.

The glass is fine and I do not have any leaks or noises. However, the seals and trims were not refitted as well as they had been originally and if one looks closely, it is obvious that the screen has been replaced.

I had better pay the extra for replacement & genuine seals next time, despite the cost.

Re: Windscreen Replacement

 WARNING to all x-trail owners:

Immediately contact your car insurer and pay to have the replacement windscreen option. NRMA only charge a one-off fee of $50 for 1 free windscreen per year. And the best thing, no excess. Nissan want over $850 for the windscreen, so this is an excellent safety net.

I guess I better ring them up and put my claim in... emoticon

Re: Windscreen Replacement

Here you go. I told you that removing that resonator box was not a good idea. hahaha

Too much resonance and the windscreen couldn't take it emoticon

Actually happened prior to removing it, but it is being fixed later today. I take my hat of the NRMA, thanks.

wooooo.... I had no idea they were that expensive. I always thought around the $200-$300 mark.

I think alot depends on your location and where your driving. I've choosen not to take this option as 99% of my driving is around town on the bitumen.

But as murphys law would have it, if you take the cover you'll never use it, if you don't have it you will wish you had......

However at that price it will be worth paying the excess and claiming it on your insurance.

Re: Windscreen Replacement

Brett,

I couldn't believe the price tag you posted for the windscreen, as it was super rip-off price indeed, so I called Nissan just now and was quoted $765.00 just for the windscreen (excluding fitting)

OUCH!!!!!!

I'm not sure how Nissan price their parts, but I hope this windscreen is made out glass and not diamonds emoticon

Am giving NRMA a call straight away to add this cover on. Thanks for the tip mate.

Re: Windscreen Replacement

P.H.E.W

I assumed I had this coverage, but I called NRMA anyway and I didn't. emoticon I do now though.emoticon

Brett, I was informed the cost was $57 per year! not the one-off $50 fee but as you say, no excess for claims, even so, great value I think. If I make 1 claim in 10 or 12 years I am still ahead.emoticon

I added the few things I have brought recently to my policy so they are covered and also asked about my tyres as they are not standard tyres (Coopers ATR's) and there is nowhere on the policy for adding different tyres.

I was advised to keep the receipt for these in case I need to make a claim where these are in question and they will replace them with the same making adjustments in replacement value for fair wear and tear.

They say ignorance is bliss, I never worried about the windscreen until I read this post this morning, didn't even give it a second thought. I was thinking about it all morning until I could get onto NRMA................

Ahhhhhh, I can rest easy tonight now. emoticon

Re: Windscreen Replacement

OK Guys,

Am covered as well emoticon

Just called NRMA and added that to my policy $57.00/year is the price and get this, ALL windows of your car are covered by this (not only the windscreen). The only glass they don't cover are the side mirrors.

Re: Windscreen Replacement

Ok, you have all been warned. Pay the extra $57 now and save the heartache later.

ps: Jalal and Jamie, if you happen to get a smashed window in the next week or so, I drink Crownies. Thanks.
now where are those rocks

Noel, not sure about your excess, but mine is $500 so even if I only replace the windscreen once in 10 years, I am still even.

Re: Windscreen Replacement

Yeah $400 excess with AAMI here, and the windscreen cover was $60 / year so yeah I think I'm going to have to agree with you here.

It's just a risk that I'm taking at present I guess. I hope you all haven't jinxed my perfect run without a cracked windscreen. emoticon
