Windscreen Replacement
Just a heads-up to anyone needing a windscreen replaced on their Exy.
I was unlucky enough to have a stone take out my windscreen while driving in Sydney last September.
It's taken til this week and 5 visits to get a satisfactory outcome from Windscreens O'Briens - one of two companies specified by my lease company, and one I'd previously had good dealings with.
First problem was the glass, branded XTG (a Korean company), had very unacceptable distortion. Additionally, the seals whistled - like you had a window open 4mm - and looked different to the genuine Nissan seals they were claimed to be.
The replacement for this XTG screen - still from XTG - had less but still unacceptable distortion; and the seals on it continued to whistle. Within a month or so, the seals actually came loose.
Eventually, a PGI screen was fitted with genuine Nissan seals and all is now okay. PGI is Protector Glass Industries, a Sydney-based company.
Along the way, I talked to a couple of local Nissan dealers about their ability to do better with a genuine Nissan screen (circa $800 parts plus fitting). In each case, they indicated that they contracted out the screen fitting, and doubted that their fitter would have much experience, if any, in doing exy windscreens.
The other fitter on my lease companies list indicated that the screens they have are XTG also.
I'm not quite sure where I'd go if I needed another screen - is the devil you know better than the one you don't ?
Although it took a big effort, eventually OBriens delivered - and from what they've learned from this should be able to take care of other Xtrails without such a hassle.
If you choose that path, make sure you get
1) genuine Nissan seals (and see the packaging !)
2) not an XTG brand screen
PGI have a fairly extensive dealer network see here so maybe they'd be worth a try.
It would be nice to hear if anyone has had a good experience with a dealer-fitted screen.
Regards
DOM
its mod spelt backward, coz I have none.
(not counting the slightly modified screen !)

Jalal - I'm surprised you don't already have one salvaged from the wreckers
I don't have room for it, but I will be able to get it if something happens
