Dinged the X-Trail today

I am seriously pissed ...

Driving along a Penrith street today, behind a van which suddenly swerved, I collected a shopping trolley which was sitting in the kerbside lane.

The lefthand front wheel ran over the front wheel of the trolley, which seriously dinged the sill and threw the trolley up to bash both passenger side doors, the rear left side window and the bodywork around it.

A visit to the local crash repair company revealed a minimum of $2000 damage - possibly $3000 if they replace the window (tinted).

I'm sorry to hear that Rob emoticon

Who does the trolley belong too? If it's marked, maybe you should take it up with the supermarket management, as it shouldn't been wondering the streets.

Re: Dinged the X-Trail today

It must be the weather...

The same thing happened to me today - 3 times (minus the actual contact and following damage).

One was some bollard made of METAL (looked more like the bottom of scaffolding pole) which was lying down and the square base was sticking out past the gutter, on a corner (so if you didn't happen to look where you were going straight after turning the corner and was in the gutter lane, then you would've cleaned it up). I think it's on the corner of Gardners Rd & Princes Hwy (or somewhere near there) - it's been there for a few days now. I forget what the other two were, but were just as dangerous.

It's good practice to leave at least a 3 second gap between you and the car in front. I know people always push-in even when the gap is less than 1 second, but that's just how everyone drives these days, which is pretty dangerous considering it takes about 1 second for most people to react after realising they've got to avoid an unexpected situation. I like to be able to drive knowing that I can come to a complete stop if the vehicle in front comes to an instantaneous stop - as if they'd hit a brick wall (or a stationary car in front of them) - hence the "3 second rule". If I can't stop, at least I've got enough time to look over my shoulder to make sure the lane next to me is free before I swerve around them.

Luckily I haven't been in such a situation. I'm sorry to hear an X-Trail is all banged up, though. The main thing is that it could've been alot worse, and you're ok.

Are you insured?

Yes, Jalal, my son also said I could follow up with the trolley's owners. However, I just want it fixed.

Yes Basshead, I am insured (with NRMA). I called them today and I have to take it in on Wednesday for an assessment.

I reckon it'll be as good as new - but I will have to pay a $500 excess.

Re: Dinged the X-Trail today

Posted by Panfa1-Copied from another thread

Since Wednesday of last week I've been slumming it - driving a 12 year old Nissan Pulsar which is a loaner from the smash repairer who's fixing my Wux-trail (I did mention the clash with the rabid shopping trolley ...)

Here are some of the highlights of driving this beast:

300 metres from an intersection, pump brakes three times; 200 metres out repeat; last 50 metres stand on them (One of the girls at the office commented that I'd probably get whiplash when I get back into the Wux. "Nah,I'll probably end up as a bonnet ornament," I said).

Engine mounts are loose, shockers are shocking, the driver's seat rocks on its mount, all the warning lights go on or off at random. Oh, and did I tell you that the fuel gauge reads minus-E no matter how much fuel I put in it?

There is no power steering (or at least it doesn't work) and the air con blows only hot air that reminds me of the ashes of a three week old bushfire.

But, there is a plus: the headlights are better than a brand new Wux-trail's with standard bulbs!

And it is a freebie ...

Hi Rob,

I’m confused, are you going somewhere?

Cheers

Yeah, he's swapping his dinged X-Trail for that battered Pulsar and changing over to the Pulsar Group forums emoticon
