Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

The saga continues, pipe cut and rewelded all installed, some clearance from the towbar approx 30 mm cold and 15 warm not yet tested at full heat.

As the muffler has moved back and pulled back on the rubber mounts it sits much higher and hits the bumper now !!!

Im going to remove all the rubber mounts, position the muffler where it needs to be. Then bend the mounting rods to where they need to be or buy universal mounts to suit.
then I hope problem solvered.

Thank Jal and Kev for your comments greatly appreciated.

Even with the problems ive had I still think Hitech have done a great job and would recommend them to anyone.

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

Hi,
We've recently had the car in the mechanics for a suspected leaking head gasket and thought that while we had the car in the shop, we would fit Hi-Tech's full exhaust system to our 2002 T30 Ti Manual.
We ordered it and it arrived at our mechanics shop on Friday 8th of July. We've come across an issue with the extractors and have told Hi-Tech about it and I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across an issue like this or knows a way to fix it.

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

Hi there it looks as if the manifold mounting plate is two separate plates, if so I think there would be enough spring or movement in the exhaust tubes to just bolt them on.

It looks as if the two plates are actually flat and straight but both slightly angled

If its one single mounting plate I would suggest putting half the plate in a vise and bolting the other half onto a bar or tube and bending it carefully until relatively straight.

Because it is not diecast ally or cast iron it doesnt need to be perfectly flat and straight as it will have some natural spring.

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

Our mechanic spoke to Hi-Tech and they said that when the extractors were cooling, they should have been held in the jig but ours weren't which lead to them becoming [sign in to see URL] the welds were in the way of the nuts...
Now we have to wait for new extractors to be made, ceramic coated and sent to our mechanic, adding another week to an already 4 week stint without our second (and quite important) car.

The moral of this story is, don't buy an exhaust a few weeks before the end of the financial year (which is what we did) otherwise mistakes can and probably will be made.

I'm looking forward to having my manual X-Trail back and seeing the performance difference the exhausts make.
I have a GoPro and the suction cup mount for it if people are keen for footage.

On a side note, we also had the clutch replaced so it should handle the increased power

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

Just to let you guys know, we got the car back yesterday around lunch, complete with new clutch, Hi-Tech full exhaust system and the engine was taken out, pulled apart and put back together (we thought the head gasket had blown as coolant was getting in the cylinders but it was just loose bolts on the head).
We are really happy with how the car sounds and drives, I haven't been able to stop grinning since we got it back

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

Thats great news,, enjoy

I only got the cat back system from hitech, We had a few issues with it at first. It was too long and pushed on the towbar. Luckily I knew a stainless steel welder and after a call to Hitech they agreed to let us do mods to the exhaust. We first cut off 15 mm of pipe and had the same clearance but by the time we had driven home it was touching again due to expansion with heat. So another 20 mm was cut off problem solved.

More than happy with mine not sure if I have more power but it seems to and sounds great.

In your previous post you mentioned about leaving the system in the jig until cooled, that is the way to do it but my stainless expert says that the metal is notorious for moving or twisting for quite a long time even after cooling.

We could have sent it back to Hitech but WA is too far from Sydney

Hi Adrian,

I have a similar suspected head gasket issue but before they pull the head off I'm ordering the cosmo CAI and hi tech exhaust system.

Will try and get all the mods done at the same time, should be interesting! Will be sure to reset the ECU a couple of day s later.

Hoping it can be done before Xmas emoticon
