Re:

Is it possible that one or more of your exhaust mounts is bent causing the entire system to sit a bit forward? It's either that or Hi-Tech may have lost the template for one of the mid section piping and are no longer sure of the correct size.

Anything is possible Kev. another member from broome has this exhaust system, I asked him about clearance from his [sign in to see URL] reply

quote:

( mine does touch but only when I start the car and the exhaust initially vibrates. It doesn't touch over bumps or anything. I was told to put some heat resistant wrap around the exhaust but I haven't worried. )

He probably doesnt realise that the pipes expand when hot and probably Jam so hard it cant rattle.
I think Hitech have designed it for the Nissan towbar which is slightly different.

Re:

I doubt it mate, we have sent this system to many customers overseas with different types of towbars attached to their xtrails and never had any problems.

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

Nick from Hitech has told me they have had some problems with towbars, most can be solved if fitted in their factory by them.
Thats one of the reasons that they were ok with me modifying the system to suit my towbar.

Also after talking to my welder, he says stainless steel is notorious for bending and twisting for sometime after it is welded.

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

Just letting everyone know my 10-year warranty was honoured today when I had to get a leak repaired and it was found to be the flexible coupling that had corroded and needed a replacement.

It was mentioned that both the flexible coupling and the Cat were externally sourced and that normally they could not warrant them for the full 10 years, especially the Cat due to potential other reasons for failure beyond Hitech's control.

With saltwater marking evident from the 3 or 4 beach runs I had done during the just over 8 years since it was fitted, there was a little hesitation, but no drama once I pointed out that there were no warranty exclusions noted on the sales docket.

Really Kev? Were you shopping at Bing Lee or something? LOL emoticon

What warranty exclusions you wanted to see on the sales docket mate?

Not to be taking sides here, but Hi-Tech had every bloody reason not grant your request for a freebie because not even Nissan can provide such a warranty on any part of the car, so to expect Hi-Tech to give you a freebie service after more than 10 years regardless of the cause is un-reasonable and I wouldn't want any one from the forum to expect the same.

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

Jalal,

It is a full stainless-steel system as you know, made to last and came with a 10 year warranty so unless there is anything stated as not covered then usually that means everything is. It was not stated as 'limited warranty' or any conditions of use.

If Hitech weren't going to cover the flexible coupling or Cat, or if exposure to saltwater from beach driving as could be expected in a 4WD was not allowed, then I would expect that to be an exclusion in their warranty just like other manufacturers have.

It was also only 8 years out of the 10 year warranty as I stated.

If a manufacturer puts something in writing then I expect them to honour that, which they did, so I commended them for it.

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

Hi Kev and jalal

I think I know the reason for my lack of clearance with the towbar, after comparing the pic that Jalal posted and comparing one I took of mine, it seems the crossmember of my towbar is a much larger section at least 90 x 90 mm if not larger..

Any way the mid section is off back to my welder to cut another 15 mm off tomorrow.
I think the towbar man sold me the heavy duty one which was recommended but not really needed.

I misread your post. I thought you were over the 10 year period. The warranty which Hi-Tech now issues with this system is 10 years warranty against Faulty Workmanship, so that is why they mentioned the cat converter and the coupling being out of the warranty. I will ask them to make that clearer to future customers to avoid any confusion down the track, as 10 years is a very long time for anyone to remember anything.....
