Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

went to see the towbar people today there towbars are hayman reece and use the same mounting points. Also today I realised that the muffler was not sitting parallel to the towbar, this may be due to the position of the front flexible pipe joint that may have moved slightly while removing the old pipes. I think I will be lucky if I get 5 mm clearance.

Any way its on and looks and sounds good still no charge for postage

Kind regards
ted
PS thanks for that photo

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

spoke to nick today about clearance problems, he said they have had some issues with some towbars,He suggested using longer muffler mounts to drop the muffler but after some measurements that would drop it far too low. Ive decided to cut 20 mm out of the tubing from the second resonator to pull the muffler back from the towbar.

Hitech are quite happy for me to do this without voiding warranty as long as I use a suitably qualified welder. Luckily I have a mate in the business.

If the system had been fitted by Hitech none of these problems would have arisen as they would have adjusted pipework on the spot.

Re:

Good to know that you can get is resolved but would Hi-Tech cover the cost of this modification/adjustment had you had to pay for it yourself and didn't have a mate in the business?

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

good question Jal, probably not in my case ,Nick did ask if the muffler hangers were vertical, that would tell him if the system was as designed. I think the system is per specifications.
Any way I have decided to cut 12-15 mm out of the second resonator pipe.got it back tonight but cant fit it until Saturday, hoping all goes well.
I am going to keep contact with Nick with the hope that some of these problems dont happen again.specially for overseas and interstate buyers.

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

Ted, you should have "IMG thumb" set up in photobucket.

Under the photobucket images you mentioned as being on the RHS of your screen does the word ZOOM appear under your images. I hope it does for you too.

I click on ZOOM under the selected image and a new TAB opens showing my selected image A SHARE LINK table is on the RHS of the page. Down the LHS of the table do you see the heading 'IMG thumb'.
If so then click once on the URL link shown against the IMG thumb heading. You may briefly see the word Copied appear then disappear. It does for me.

Go back to your post and place the cursor where you want your image to appear.
On your keyboard, hold down the 'Ctrl' key and press the 'V' key. This should paste the image link to your post. If it does then you can check the image by clicking on the preview button under your post box. If all OK you can then submit.

If this does not work for you someone else may be able to help. If you do not have "IMG thumb" as a heading on the SHARE LINK table then you will need to add this in the photobucket setup. I think if you use the "IMG" heading then a full size image may appear in your post which takes up too much space. I don't know what happens if you use the HTML or HTML thumb URL links as I have no need to try them.

Hope the above all makes sense....if not then best of luck.

ps A shortcut for those who don't know, you can copy and paste most items/pics/text etc by first highlighting the text or putting cursor on pic, then holding down the Ctrl key then pressing C to copy, then go to where you want the item copied and hold down Ctrl key then press the V key (paste)....works for me

cheers

Anyway

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System (T30 X-TRAIL)

thanks for photo tips guys.
Jal I cut 15 mm from the exhaust and fitted it today got 15 mm clearance from towbar drove about 3Km exhaust started rattling again, exhaust expanded with the heat and touching towbar again. The square tubing that holds the hitch in place protrudes thru the horizontal bar by the weld plus 5mm. so im going to grind the excess off. If that doesnt work back to my mate and cut a bit more out of exhaust.
It is definitely expansion as an hour later I had 15 mm clearance again.

below photo was taken before exhaust cut but the same after cut with expansion

I wouldn't recommend grinding anything off the towbar, where ever it may be. Safest to just cut more off the exhaust I think.
