how come you dont pay for them?
dont mind my asking.
I just go there wearing shorts and holding a tennis racket and shave my legs pretty well. hahahaha (just kidding) I didn't have to pay for my dyno runs because I work closely with Hi-Tech mufflers and we were researching the power gains.

Now that you have fitted a CAI and a full exhaust mod, it is a MUST and will be worth every $$$ spent on it.

Re: "Piggy Back" ECU
thanks Rich, i was quoted $80 for a air:fuel, torque and power readings from a place called Hyperdrive which i was VERY pleased with, they offered lots of helpful advice regarding piggy backs and didnt treat me like a child which i seem to get sometimes...
some of said advice was that it will end up being MUCH more effective (in terms of cost v. power gains) searching for some aftermarket cams rather than a the $1500+ of a full piggyback ecu + tune he said.
but i dont think im quite ready for such a mod as yet.
so in terms of piggy backs, i think ill go the A'PEXi neo, as that does what im looking for.
i think some people see a young bloke and seem to think i have no idea what i'm talking about.
for example, an exhaust shop tried to sell me a highflow cat for $550 including installation even though i said i DONT whant it installed - ill do it myself - he seemed to laugh at that idea, THEN he maybe started to take me seriously haha

Re: "Piggy Back" ECU
thanks dave yeh from now im just looking at tuning up some air: fuel ratios, not doing the piggy back for a power increase, any such increase will be cool but!
i think im pretty much done in the way of performance mods, until i cant find something bigger.
im thinking of doing a bit of research on some cams i mightve spied some OBX ones while browsing for the headers, but will have to see. im also open for other big mods (maybe headwork) , but im NOT interested in forced induction for one reason - insurance.

still have welding burns all up and down my arms, looks like im a lepper!

Re: "Piggy Back" ECU
Hey all.
just got off the phone with Hyperdrive motorsport, a performance/tuning place here in perth (malaga for you perthies out there)
they specialise in GReddy products and im VERY interested in saving for the e-Manage ultimate.
its a bit more expensive than the haltech miniceptor, but it has its justifications.
for starters, it has the capacity to switch between two different tuning maps, one for normal (economy) driving and one for performance (power). this is a HUGE attraction for me, as i would love be be able to have some sort of control over what goes on in that little unit. also the unit comes with software meaning the unit CAN be tweaked for little things, after the original tune.
they quoted me between 1300 and 1650 for a before and after dyno tune, supply(unit and windows software), install, full tune, and a possible "sponsorship". he said because he has had a few people come to him regarding x-trails, but no one has had the guts to have one installed (untill now). i trust these guys and im willing to be a ginea-pig especially if it means some sort of discount...
can anyone think of any downsides to the e-manage ultiumate?

Re: "Piggy Back" ECU
Only possible downside Cam is the fact one has not been fitted to an Xtrail before (but someone has to be first) and I cannot find a similar vehicle engine type on their website, which might mean a LOOOOONG time in the workshop getting things working (as Jalal had with his Haltech being the first).
Just ask questions of the installer if they have direct phone support from Greddy techs at all hours incase something does not work.

Re: "Piggy Back" ECU
The e-Manage Ultimate doesn't seem to support the QR25DE engine and there is no interface connection specifications for it. After reading a bit more there isn't even any fuel maps designed by e-Manage for our engine and none of the Sentra guys seem to have used with their Sentra's (QR25DE as well).
I'd contact G-Reddy directly and ask for all the data and sepcs in support of the QR25DE engine before committing to it. In my case with the Haltech I knew it was fitted to a turbo charged xtrail before mine, so that's why I wasn't worried about compatibility.

Re: "Piggy Back" ECU
Yeh i mean the guys said they are able to do it just might add a bit of time to wire it up.
he mentioned that the only problem is the wiring, but their auto electrictian said its a fairly easy thing.
im definatley inspecting this further cos i dont wanna be a gineapig that pays double the price...
i told them it was a QR engine and he went away and looked at some little handbook of compatibilities from GReddy, and plus another tech guy mentioned "we could just hack the factory maps" then the guy i was speaking to said they are untouchable - so he obvoisly knows these engines.
ill contact GReddy on monday about it and post on here what they said.
the haltech's still an option for sure, but im struggling to find a distributor in perth to supply and tune it for me.
the search continues...

Lucky they corrected themselves with this info, as I would have told you don't even go near them if they think they can hack the factory ECU maps
They would have been VERY rich people if they knew how to do it cause no one in the world has managed to do that yet.
As for wiring, believe me, it's not an easy process at all and will require quite a lot of attention as they'll be hard wiring to the factory ECU and any mistake there will cause heaps of problems.
