Flexing rear bumper/mudflap

One thing that has annoyed me since buying the vehicle is the amount of flex in the rear bumper/mudflap area. When washing the vehicle around the rear mudflap area there is a lot of flex when you gently push on it. I have found a very simple solution to this. Remove the two black push in clips that hold the black plastic mud/stone guard to the body(sorry hard to describe but they are the only two push clips in this area), then replace these with two speed clips & screws. Very simple, takes about 5 minutes to do & makes a huge difference to rigidity of the rear bumper/mudflap area.

Re: Flexing rear bumper/mudflap

I notice the exact same thing when I wash my car and I always think that the push in clips are missing.

Am gonna try your solution this weekend.

Thanks for the tip.

Any chance of a pic or two? Please?
Am I having a blonde moment but "speed clips"?
Thanks.

Speed clips are the clips that slide over piece of metal with a hole in it & then you put a self tapper through it. Hard to explain. May be same style of clip that holds mudflap on, not sure haven't checked flaps but they usually are.

Re: Flexing rear bumper/mudflap

I got a couple of these speed clips in my garage (well, at least I know what they're called now) emoticon

I'll take a pic of them when I change the standard clips this weekend.

I have actually replaced the clips that hold the front grille with these ones, as they seem to hold things in place better.

I think they're available from a hardware store, but I got mine from the UK with the grille.

Thanks. I know the ones. They're the tricky little beggars that the one in the most awkward position always slides out of alignment when you're trying to put things back together. David. emoticon

Just wondering whether anyone tried my solution & did it cure the annoyance? Obviously it has been a source of annoyance for a lot of owners due to the number of views.

I hope your not referring to the bump in your rear end. emoticon

Sorry to hear about your exy. I had a close call with mine a few weeks back. If it weren’t for the ABS mine would have been a write off.

Cheers

xtrailing,

I went to change the clips on the weekend and it turns out that I have already done this at some stage and forgot about it emoticon

All OK with my bumper.
