Re: Exhaust Tailpipe Mod (Cosmetic Only)

Thanks Jalal,

That is what I thought about that one,

Went to Stockton on the weekend and had a thumping noise in rear, person following told me it was the muffler banging against the floor, another reason to change. also lost plastic bits under engine.

Re: Exhaust Tailpipe Mod (Cosmetic Only)

The exhaust place up here said to me the standard rear exhaust was very badly designed for a 4x4 vehicle, for the exact reason your talking about.

The guy recommended that I change the entire thing to a much smaller one.

Re: Exhaust Tailpipe Mod (Cosmetic Only)

Hey guys,

While our ugly big muffler is a definite target for replacement, it actually doesn't look that bad (cosmetically) once you put a bit of an effort to polish it and paint it emoticon

The muffler is actually chrome and I have used the stainless steel polish to give it the shine it deserves.

I also painted the sides of the muffler as well as the tail pipes using the heat proof Aluminium paint.

Happy with the final product, which should last me until August-Sep. when I'll be changing the whole thing to a double-tail set-up emoticon

Re: Exhaust Tailpipe Mod (Cosmetic Only)

I've seen this junction/break in the exhaust system as well. You can see the two bolts your referring to in this photo:

Not sure what I’ll be doing yet. Although a new smaller/sports muffler with twin exhaust pipes, bolted to this section sounds the most logical.

Kind Regards

Can anyone recommend brands for the sports muffler. And does it add to the power of the xtail? It looks like you could get the exhaust in a nice straight line from front to back. (Pictures would be nice)

cheers

Re: Exhaust Tailpipe Mod (Cosmetic Only)

Hi busso,

And Welcome to the Forums.

I still haven't done anything major to my exhaust yet, although have shortened the tip by half which looks ok.

A high flow sports muffler will improve the horsepower to an extent, so will larger diameter exhaust piping and exhaust extractors as well. Depends how much money you want to throw at it.

Then there is the Air Intake side of things with Hyclones, K&N Filters, Cold Air Intake devices, etc.

For me personally I just want to get rid of the ugly large looking existing muffler and replace with one that is smaller and less obvious. If I can improve on power at the same time with minimal cost I'll do that, but I don't think I'll be going the works like "xtrailing" with the extractors and hyclones. That's not to say that I'm not still considering this, just depends on price for me.

Cheers

Re: Exhaust Tailpipe Mod (Cosmetic Only)

Hi Guys, Has anyone changed there rear muffler yet if so to what. I have had two goes with friends stainless steel aftermarket mufflers and they have either been to small or not had enough glass packing to deaden the sound and they both got a drone when at highway speeds.I would appreciate it if anyone has done this and had a good result.
