Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

Looking good Jalal! Can you turn off those "Knight Rider" style flashing lights?? Surely that is really distracting?

Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

Yes Adam, I can do that for sure. I just had them on for illustration, but I can switch them off or adjust the settings to use them as the RPM indication when in Km/hour mode.

Actually the whole unit can be switched off when not needed.

Also, there are 3 brightness settings and the one I was filming was the lowest brightness..yes, it is pretty bright at night, but the highest brightness setting is very good in daylight.

Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

Hey, just a thought Jalal,

Can you see the HUD from outside the vehicle, as in could an oncoming vehicle see it as they drive past?

Probably not much of a problem at high speeds but could cause a distraction as cars approach slowly from the oncoming lane.

I know as I look at things, I tend to drift toward the area my vision is focused on. Might be worth being aware of this at lights etc... emoticon

Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

Nope Jaime, the digits are only visible from the inside of the windscreen, the film used is a spacial type that doesn't allow the oncoming traffic to see the displayed digits.

Re:

Hi Guys,

Reviving a super old thread for a new technology emoticon

Aldi has an updated HUD for sale this week for $49.99 that plugs straight into the OBD-II port of the car and works straight out of the box with no re-wiring or anything else required.

It displays, speed, rpm, battery voltage, engine temp and has many more features like an alert for all these, including a speed alert.

I have just fitted in to both my Merc and my wife's Exy and they both worked fine. The display is super clear in direct sunlight as well. Best $50 bucks (or a $100 in my case), I have ever spent emoticon

Re: Re:

I saw these in Aldi today as well. I have had a OBDII HUD in my wife's Mazda 3 for sometime now (mainly for the P Plate son). It is great for keeping him on the speed limit (the dashcam records the speed on the windscreen). When I got my OBDII HUD I had to calibrate the speed reading. Do you have to do that with the Aldi one?

Cheers

John

It's accurate straight out of the box.

Re:

Hi Jalalski,

So it read the same as your car speedo, as it get the speed data from the ECU? The speedo in my Xtrail and the wife's Mazda are out by at least 8 km at 100 kms. I calibrated the HUD against a GPS, so that the HUD is displaying the true speed.

Cheers

John
