Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

Adam,

I thought the "Defi Concept" system gave you much more than just RPM and Speed readings, as described on their website.

I'm not sure however if each reading would need to run off a separate sensor or through tapping into the main cluster wiring harness where these indicators already exist.

This is the type of information I was hoping you can find-out from your mate running with the Defi system.

P.S. Having that film located on the bottom right corner will be in line of sight. I wasn't planning on having the speed projected in the middle of the windscreen and I don't think that HUD is designed to have the image projected there emoticon

Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

OK, I have asked my mate about the HUD he has in his S2000. He has the DEFI boost gauge and turbo timer which they don't make anymore. I have seen this in action in his car, he has it in the center of the windscreen and no film on the screen, it is very clear to see even in daylight.

The DEFI VSD Concept (the one linked to in the start of this thread) is the one they concentrate on now, it is a modular system that caters for almost all needs. It has been on his must have list for some time!!

The VSD Concept is just a speed/tacho gauge, to do more than this you have to also get the Defi Control Link box and the sensors required for whatever you want to monitor. You will be looking at $1k minimum for a complete setup.

There was another member of the S2000 owners club who used to be in involved with distribution of the Defi products in Australia, I will see if he still has that connection.

Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

Thanks Adam,

Great info.

I also heared about the control box, but I was under the impression that it was sold as part of the "Defi VSD Concept" package. I guess that is incorrect.

For a price tag of $750 (at least) I was hoping that it included a control box too emoticon

Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

It is possible that the $750 price does include it, I have not seen the price list so I don't know what costs what.

What I do know is that it is modular, you don't have to buy everything.

Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

Hi Guys,

Well, what can I say, the HUD is on and I have been driving around this arvo testing it and admiring it.

One awesome piece of technology I must admit and I can see myself ignoring the centre OEM dials all together with this HUD on.

The brightness and sharpness of the green LED digits is unbelievable.

I have tried driving around without the supplied piece of film that goes onto the windscreen but when I had my sunnies on I couldn't see a thing (without sunnies it was fine) plus the digits had shadows, so I decided to stick the film and everything is OK.

The installation was done by my local auto electrician as the RPM and Speed sensor wires had to be connected directly to the corresponding ports on the ECU. I didn't feel comfortable enough tapping into the ECU wires, so I decided to have it done professionally.

Here are some (sub-standard quality) pics I have taken in a hurry in my driveway. I will take better pics tonight if possible.

Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

Hi Guys,

I played around with the HUD last night and explored all its settings. One smart gadget it is indeed emoticon

I have taken some photos at night but my digital camera is hopeless (time for an upgrade I think) and the quality of pics was still not clear, so I have decided to make some videos showing the HUD in action.

Video HUD1&2 (file size 2.26MB)

Video HUD3 (file size 3.32MB)
