HUD - Heads-Up-Display

OK Guys,

I'm hooked to the new technology once again emoticon

Apparently the exy in Taiwan is equipped with HUD and it is an awesome feature to have, especially for those who keep saying they can't get used to the center-mounted dials and even for other cars too.

What is it you ask?

The projection technology is called "Head Up Display(HUD)." HUD allows drivers to keep line of sight forward and recognize the image(speed and/or other information) projected on the windshield efficiently and quickly. The HUD technology is often found in jets, helicopters and tanks.

Wouldn't that be cool??? emoticon

Wanna see it in action? look HERE

Now, I have inquired about the Defi System and I thought it's gonna cost a small fortune, but it turned-out to be quite affordable for what it can do.

There are 2 types of this system:

* VSD BASIS
* VSD CONCEPT a much more advanced system that would display not only your speed, but everything else too (RPM, oil, fuel..etc)

Some of you been talking about speedo accuracy check, well guess what? THIS is it LOL emoticon

Now that I have posted and found a bit more details about this gadget, it's gonna get stuck in my mind forever (until I get it) LOL

Let me know what you think or if anyone thought of adding this technology to the exy.

I have a friend with a HUD in his S2000, shows his turbo psi. emoticon

If you want to get any info generally about HUD's and whether they are worth it, I can ask him.

Yes please Adam, ask for his opinion of it and what brand is it, as well as how hard is it to install.

Thanks mate.

Andrew, I learned NOT to price things here at all and go straight overseas for these gadgets and you have proved me right again LOL emoticon

Re: HUD - Heads-Up-Display

Just before I bought my WRX, I looked at a full import Nissan Bluebird SSS. This car had a HUD. I had a long good look at the HUD, cause it really intrigued me. The image is reflected on a film that is something like sun-reflective film. This is to ensure you don't get a double image (from both sides of the class.)

I note that Defi, use a similar film. The only hassle with the film is it's not very clear. You can see through it ok, but the image is a bit blurry. So when you have the unit switched off, eg night driving, things look a bit wonky. Wouldn't bother me, just thought I'd pass on my observations

That's correct Andrew, but that film will only occupy the corner of the lower portion of the windscreen and you wouldn't be looking through that very often, so I think it's not an issue (for me personally)

Jalal, the idea of a HUD is to have it in your line of sight, if you have it over in the corner (I assume you mean the right hand corner) then you still have to look over it at so you might just as well look left at the real dials!! emoticon

Regarding the film, my friend has a DEFI unit (an old one) and he has not used the film, works fine without it. I have not had a chance to ask him anymore about it yet but I have been doing some research and I am not sure they are that great, a bit of a gimmic. Defi seem to be the king of HUDs though. Something to remember with the DEFI kit, although they can show you all manner of readings the standard unit only gives rpm and speed, each additional reading requires a dedicated sensor to be added.
