Re: Engine Oil 101

Just to clarify on Sukura there statement is they ere equal to and better than the original equipment and they have the one way valve that nissan have as well. Nissans fuel filter that I got from nissan is made by coopers no nissan logo on it at all.

Re: Engine Oil 101

The genuine Nissan Premium oil for the XTrail is a [sign in to see URL] semi-synthetic "blend".
I don't know of anything you can buy else-where like that.
I think the nearest and next best thing would be the 5W30 Castrol Edge (Formula R replacement). The price is pretty reasonable these days.
The dealer we go to uses the genuine oil, so we have nothing to worry about, but many places use cheaper nastier oils that would concern me.
If price is a REAL concern, you could get away with Castrol GTX Magnetec, but make sure you stick to the service intervals religously.

Re: Engine Oil 101

Coming up to 30,000 service & am going to use Shell Helix Plus which is a 5w40 full synthetic. Local dealer has been using Shell Helix Super which is a 15w40 semi synthetic. Not using the useless local dealer this time!! Going to a private concern & supplying my own oil.

Cheers Phil

Re: Engine Oil 101

Need some help.

I have just scored some new engine oil, cheap, but I am not sure which one to use.
  Mobil 1 synth 5w-50
  Castrol R synth 5w30.

Now that we are coming into winter, is it better to use the 30 or 50. Is there any real difference ???

Regarding these figures, I gather the 5w number is cold start up weight and the 30 or 50 is the running temp weight. Can someone please explain this.....

Re: Engine Oil

Sorry if this has been said before, I just got the X-Trail back from a 70k service. After questioning the bill, they said they only use Synmx oil (at $32/lit) Does this sound right? $144 for oil sounded a bit much. thanks Ed

Re: Synthetic Engine Oil 15w-50 SL / CF

I'm using this access, as the Mineral vs. Synthetic is locked for some reason. The owner's manual for my 2007/8 t30, 2.5 petrol, indicates 15w-50 SL/CF engine oil. I like using synthetic, but this viscosity is recommended by most reputable producers, e.g Shell, for high-performance motorcycles only. No mention of cars. Can anyone tell me if "motorbike" oil could damage my engine?
