Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

Cant help you out with the Diagram mate but i am very interested as i want to know why its such a drama to replace the existing cd stacker as it really pisses me off that theres no MP3 player. Also when i was looking at putting in a dvd player the installers were saying that you cant plug into the existing speker system? why? I am sure someone has modded the stereo in the exy.

Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

Hi Matt,

Yes I do have the wiring diagram as part of the electronic service manual CD. The problem is that the file concerning the radio diagram is just too huge to save.

Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

Hi Linc,

The problem is that the stock radio units in our xtrails do not have the AUX input to plug-in the MP3 or other devices and that is a limitation acknowledged by xtrailers worldwide.

You can get the DVD player with a wireless transmitter to transmit the audio through your existing head-unit without the need to physically plug into it from the back.

Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

There are various alternatives to playing MP3's through the factory radio.

One I've recently discovered (and will probably do) is to use an iPod with the FM transmitter (I think it's $80 extra, but am sure Jaycar or d*** Smith would sell something similar for much cheaper!)

I bought Clare an iPod Mini the other week on special from Myers/Grace Bros for $300 (cheaper than ebay, Jalal!) so for a total outlay of $380 (plus another $80 if I want to get the "car charger/power kit"), it's better than a standard car audio brand-name FM-Transmitter style CD stacker as it can still be used out of the car (walking or on the train).

Mat, I sent you a PM regarding the CD, but Jalal also posted the suggestion here anyway. I could also copy the particular file needed from the CD and put it on my webspace. If someone (Jalal?) can tell me exactly which PDF file it is on the CD, I'll put it online later this week.

Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

Rich,

Stay away from those iPod FM transmitters, as people have complained about great interference and loss of sound in some spots while driving. That's what I've been reading about them anyway.

The section which Mat is after for the radio wiring diagram is section K-Electrical, then click on Audio and choose Wiring diagram-Audio-(without casette deck)

Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

Thanks for your suggestions. I have my dash and doors all apart at the moment, normally I have had no probs connecting to my other cars, but the exy does not have a very good colour scheme to try and narrow the power ones down!

Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

I am too is looking at adding MP3 to our Exy:
Option 1) as suggestd by Rich using Ipod and Itrip (FM Transmitter) but am a bit concerned about the interference as Jalal said. A friend just bough a 40Gb Ipod photo and the Itrip ($530.$60) (last week for his car so I am waiting to hear some feedback from him.
Option 2) My Nokia 6230 can take a 1Gb MMC card so I can also use it as a MP3 player. Just have to buy the FM Transmitter.
3) Some DVD/MP3 car player I saw in either JB-HiFi or Strathfield have Aux in. One of these will play MP3 on your DVD/CD discs or external MP3 player (e.g Ipod) via aux-in or FM transmitter.

Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

Spoke to my friend regard the Ipod/Itrip and he said he has had no problem with intererence so far but it depends on which area you are in at the time. There is a small level of noise when there is no music and also keep it away from your mobile phone was his advice. Note also the frequency on the Itrip is fixed while you can get other FM transmitter with adjustable frequency.
Jaycar hae one for $59.95 and you can also find others at http://www.minidisc.com.au.
