Not sure what the set-up is with some bigger 4X4 including some Patrols having factory bonnet scoops & not forgetting the World Rally cars, all with scoops, who encounter a fair bit of dirt and dust too.
Aren't they for air-to-air intercoolers (for turbos) mounted on the top of the engine block?

This looks like an exy from the Netherlands and to me this scoop serves no purpose and I suspect it's just a stick-on type for show.
Looks nice though 
Have you seen the off-road pics in that web site?? This exy has one the "dirt" trophy and managed to beat a couple of bigger 4WDs
