Remote Car Starter
Hi Guys,
I've seen this product being mentioned in another forum and it has been fitted to an xtrail and was wondering if there is anything similar that I can find here in Australia?
http://www.astrostart.com/
It'll be an excellent feature to have in our hot summer days (especially for those of us driving to work and parking their car outdoors)
Apart from that, it's an excellent added security device that would compliment (not replace) our existing system.

Re: Remote Car Starter
I searched around and found this system selling on eBay for a reasonable price.
Will be exploring this option further.

It is a pretty standard fit around the Arabian Gulf Region, maybe your contact over there could source. Maybe its a nissan part
Hi Pete,
Nope, it's not a nissan part. I wish it was though.
The above alarm has been designed and developed in Canada. There are cheap imitations available on eBay as well. The thing that worries me is if I do get, will I find a shop that would know how to fit it for me correctly here? It needs to be hooked-up via a spare key to the existing security system we have.
Richi is correct, the engine is disabled if the engine rev goes above a certain level or the brake light comes-one, so even if you leave your doors unlocked for some reason, the engine immobiliser will keep your xtrail safe from being driven away (but not from your valuables being taken from inside the car)
In addition to that the sender unit on the car will send you a signal notifying you of an open door.
I find this system very cool.

Re: Remote Car Starter
Posted by Canada's FarEast - Copied from another thread
============================================
I'm guessing (from this topic and other posts that I have read) that the use of "remote starters" is not a common thing in your part of the World.
That surprises me a little, with particular regard to your very hot weather.
Remote starters are quite popular in Canada - mostly for winter use. However, we do also use them for the exceptionally hot days to cool the car down.
Leave the heater (and seat heaters) on bust in the winter and the air conditioning on bust in the summer when you leave the vehicle for an extended period (overnight or mid-afternoon or while at work). Then simply remote start the car (doors can remain locked) a few minutes in advance of your use et voila, it's warmer or cooler when you enter.
So, what's that got to do with the OEM keyless remote - - - I had my dealer install a remote starter on delivery. They come with 1 or 2 "fobs" (depending on model) and lock / unlock the vehicle, in addition to starting it. Most have a security feature as well. I have 2 red lights flashing in my windscreen (when the doors are locked) - - the OEM one and the remote one.
With the remote starter installed, I use the remotes from it and therefore have 2 (never used) of the original keyless remote fobs.
I was shocked when I saw the price of these in this post. For $145 you could get yourself a decent remote starter, have 2 fobs and get a little extra bang for your buck.
BTW, the "convenience" of the remote starter will impact on your fuel economy, depending on how long you let the vehicle run before use. There's a "programmable" feature for auto shut-off after a specified period.
