what do you mean by k & n air intake? do you mean a k & n air filter? many people have installed the air filter including myself.

Re:

Max, he means a K&N Cold Air Intake System. It hasn't been fitted on X-Trail before because it was too expensive and we didn't have confirmed results of it, so the general direction followed the Cosmo Rasing CAI which you can also fit with the bypass valve for off-roading.

Please show us your Typhoon system and reports the results. Always good to find something new to explore and talk about.

Re: Air intake design & modifications

Hi Jalal,

Firstly thanks to you and all the forum members for providing so much useful information on this topic (and others), very informative!

I know I'm an easy decade behind the eightball here and wish I'd been following this action from day one. Anyway better late than never...

I'm about to embark on doing your Cosmo CAI mod along with a complete overhaul of the exhaust system (will check out the separate threads on this later). I've been through all the posts and would like confirmation that I'm buying the right parts for my T30 2005 [sign in to see URL] ST, namely:
   - Cosmo CAI Nissan kit from Canada preferably without their filter
   - K&N filter RX 4990
   - K&N filter wrap 4990DK

I assume that the bypass filter (a must after reading your advice) comes with the Cosmo kit?

Are there any other options you would now consider suitable for my model (even if more expensive)?

I'm all ears for any other advice you may have, including whether to get an ECU remap afterwards? I'll certainly be looking at the exhaust threads for the best options there as well.

Thanks in advance, Charles.

Re: Air intake design & modifications

That sounds about right Charles. It's been over 10 years since I have done this, so you're testing my memory a bit emoticon

Yes, the AEM bypass valve is a must and it's cheap insurance and added peace of mind.

I'm not upto date on what else has been made available for the T30 but I would be surprised if something new has been developed for it given that most performance parts for the T30 have been discontinued from production.

The installation guide for the Cosmo CAI is in the first post of this thread.

Good luck with it.

Re: Air intake design & modifications

Hi Charles,

The AEM bypass valve is not part of the Cosmo CAI and will have to be purchased separately.

Re: Air intake design & modifications

Thanks for the confirmation Jalal and Kev.

Any idea if the bypass valve is a standard part I can purchase at most car accessory retailers eg Supercheap?

Thanks Charles

Nope Charles, it's pretty specific and only AEM have the compatible one with Cosmo.
