posticon Chrome Plating

Hi Guys,

I found this web site through eBay and was wondering if there is a similar place that can do this in Sydney?

http://www.lawheel.com/chrome.htm

I would be very much interested in that.

Rich: Can the guys you mentioned to me last weekend chrome alloy wheels as well?

Re: My Chrome Dream

http://www.bronzingstudio.com.au/ is the place I mentioned, which chrome-plates any non-metallic articles (their examples are general household items etc) but I found out about them years ago when I was looking at chrome-plating car parts... It's not cheap; I didn't see it on their website, but they had a demo falcon or commodore at a show a couple of years ago that had the entire dashboard (everything that was plastic) chrome plated. You would've needed sunglasses to sit in it because of the glare/reflection from the dash was like a mirror! Not sure if they do metals/wheels, but going by the prices they quote for much smaller items, wheels would be extremely expensive for them.

As for chrome-plating wheels - I also chased that up with some other companies in Sydney, but apparently some laws were changed regarding the disposal of by-products of the plating process, forcing alot of the companies out of business... Initially I was told that it was illegal to do chrome-plating anymore, but it turned out the government had just made it extremely expensive to dispose of the waste materials, forcing alot of them out of business. I hadn't found any places in Sydney that chrome-plate wheels since then (that was a few years ago).

Re: Chrome Plating

Rich,

I found one, but unfortunately, they're located in West Australia.

http://www.fantachrome.com.au/1/index.html

I have emailed them asking if they have a local dealer in Sydney or know someone that does the same thing.

EDIT: False alarm, the guys responded to me saying they only sell the equipment to do chrome plating, but they don't do it themselves. They gave me a contact in Melbourne that does chrome plating (using their equipment)

Re: Chrome Plating

Russ,

I gave Ultimate Shine a call and they told me that they can only do the alloy wheels in polished chrome (i.e. not the mirror finish) and it will require me to apply some sort of a polish every month to keep the shiny look.

Price quoted was between $600 to $1,500 depending on the type of alloys I have.

I didn't think it's gonna be so expensive, as it actually very close to a price of a new set of alloy wheels.

I wont be telling my wife about it either emoticon
