Re: Grinding/ Rubbing noise

Noel,

My only reply to your post would be that the ST and Ti share exactly the same features and engine power (including the ABS features) except the following differences:

1. 16" Alloy wheels
2. 6 CD in dash changer.
3. sunroof (or the DVD pack)
4. Leather interior as an option.

All other changes are cosmetic.

The above is no reason to take one of them off-road but not the other.

I have a Series 2 ST and it has ABS... Maybe the Series 1 didn't come with ABS, but I highly doubt it, as I'm sure even the budget pulsars have all come with ABS for the last several years...

Gents,

Perhaps I'm mistaken. I assumed the ST didn't come with ABS.

Re: Grinding/ Rubbing noise

yeh im pretty sure mine has ABS too... but im not so sure now. Anyone know for sure if the series 1 ST has ABS?

EDIT: I have both the series 1 and series 2 xtrail brochures. The series 1 came with ABS.

The only thing added/changed in series 2 is the cruise control as standard, leather steering wheel and changes to the tail lights, bumpers and an upgrade of the dash layout. Anything else i forgot to mention let me know. But yeh series 1 deff has ABS (phew)

I was about to go back and bash the salesman, who assured me that my series 1 ST had ABS when he sold me the car emoticon just kidding.

ABS is standard across all xtrails.

My ABS light was on (due to the computer going crazy after being snatched out and excessive wheelspin prior to the snatching). I believe this (according to Peter) is the ABS kicking in and out, which I thought was strange as I wasn't braking at all - only accelerating

I think I was thinking more along the lines of traction contol (which it hasnt got) - I aint no expert. But I still think it has to do with the way the All Mode 4x4 system works. The reason it may not be as apparent when driving on roads in the rain, is that there actually isnt any slip occurring and therefore there is no transfer of power between the wheels. But as the question has been raised a few times before, I reckon the best thing to do is write to Nissan Technical and ask about it or for a description of how it actually works. I mean compared to an older stock 4wd (like mine) there is a lot of "stuff happening" when the system responds, which when you look at the occassions it has happened, there has been a lot of slip occurring and therefore the system is trying to respond and redistribute power around the drive components.

As I only pulled you out - not snatch - and you were in neutral and there wasnt much force involved, I am not sure would have an impact

Noel,

Just in case you are unsure about standard features on the ST- ABS is Standard same as the TI. And even though I have the ST I would not trash it or treat it any different to a TI.

Re: Grinding/ Rubbing noise

Yeh, I checked the old brochure I got when I bought my TI, and the ST is almost identical apart from a few cosmetic features.

Sorry if I offended anyone with the word trashing. I guess I didn’t buy my X-Trail to go off-road very often, but that’s just me. I’ve been off-road with it once, but nothing serious.

Perhaps I’m a bit fearful of doing any serious damage, as I actually own this one, and I want it to last as long as it can. I guess the work vehicle I don’t mind throwing around, as it’s not mine.

Kind Regards

Re: Grinding/ Rubbing noise

Noel,
I don't think you have offended anyone, but I do agree in some regards that this is not a serious offroader which we all know but still want to have some fun. Sometimes I wish I purchased a vehicle with Low Range now that I have been off road ( Want more).

Re: Grinding/ Rubbing noise

NPC73. No one was talking about how serious the x-trail will go offroad, just about a tyre rubbing noise and you just hijacked the tread....

Look, the x-trail is not aimed at extreme offroad work(WE ALL KNOW THAT ALREADY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TIRED OF EVERYONE REMINDING THIS CRAP...) if you want to do that offroading you better buy a patrol. But since we want POWER,AERODYNAMICS, fuel economy, QUALITY,HANDLING,SECURITY,ETC balance we chose the x-trail emoticon. And besides that it's a vehicle that can TOW better than most big vehicles(There is a big patrol in my house, zd30di good torque, but too heavy).

So...back on to the drinding/rubbing noise. I've experimented it, when turning on lock on hard surfaces and when there is a big difference of tyre pressure on the front/rear. I have found that driving on auto offroad is better in places like sand/mud,but not on places with a lof of holes(that need wheel travel, etc).
