Re: Service Costs Comparison

how much do you guys think a 45 000 km interim service would be?
My understanding is that, under normal driving conditions (as opposed to "severe" conditions or whatever they call it), a minor service is required every 10,000km or 6 months, and a major service is required at 40,000km (or 2 years, if my maths is correct) intervals - so 40k, 80k, 120k etc.
My servicing dealer said that each minor service should be the same so the cost shouldn't vary. Somewhere around the $140-$200 mark, judging by everyone's comments.
Cheers,
Brenton

Re: Service Costs Comparison
hey i have my car booked in next week for the 45000km interim service. They quoted me $180 first up, i was like hmm yeh ok, but then i got home 15 minutes later and thought nah i'll just wait until the 50k... so i called them up to cancel and suddenly the price drops down to around $130-145, funny that.
Anyway my main question is, where abouts is the oil filter located? I want to mark it.
Cheers, Matt

Re: Service Costs Comparison
Matt,
I thought this was going to easy to find!!. What an awful place to have the oil filter.
It’s located on the driver’s side just behind all the flywheels. From the drivers front tyre it is right behind all the plastic guards. You can see it just, if you get under your vehicle and looking as per this photo.
The bolt in the upper left is the sump drain plug. I’d also mark this somehow to check that they actually change the oil.
Kind Regards

Re: Service Costs Comparison
Nice pic Noel
I only found-out the place of oil filter after the Kurnell beach trip when I was trying to figure-out where all the plastic bits that had fallen off went, so I spend quite a considerable amount of time under the car solving the puzzle and then I stumbled across the oil filter and thought "what a bloody stupid place to attach an oil filter"
Anyway, I still ended-up with one extra plastic guard that I just can't work-out where it belongs, so might use other xtrails as example at the Stockton meet-up to put it back in place.
Anyway, back on the subject, I know that nissan change the oil for sure, as I notice the colour change of the oil after the service, you can tell it's new oil just by looking at it.
I can't say the same in regard to the oil filter though. Never checked, but maybe would in the future. I don't think nissan would that scabby about the oil filter, which is costing them cents

Re: Service Costs Comparison
hey Jalal,
HAHA pretty funny about the plastic bits, i can just picture your car on the beach losing bits off the body as your driving along.
And ohhhh trust me, not to mention car makers (ie mitsubishi), but my old car never had its oil filter changed for three services. I put a dot of white-out on it and it was still there about a year later. Not good when it was a new car too and i was paying money for the filter.

Matt
Mate, I got so paranoid, that I started collecting every bloody plastic bit that I could find on the beach which had the nissan logo on it
It was like being at the wreckers
