Re: Modifying Tail lights

I have checked other threads, because I thought I read somewhere how to remove the tail lights.

Removed the two bolts and pulled, nothing.

I note there are three plastic clips in the light, but the more I pull the more the plastic creaks. I tried calling Nissan and they told me that they break roughly 1 in 5 trying to replace them. Nissan also told me that to replace the rear tail light would be $65, inc $40 in labour. Not bad for a $3.50 globe.

Any hints please on how to remove the lights, minimising the risk of cracking the lense.

 UPDATE:

Decided to bite the bullet and give it one last try. Yah, it worked. Talk about stress. I haven't been that nervous since....

I unclipped the top lug first, by placing a screwdriver covered in a rag under the light about 3' from the top. (Screwdriver being horizontal to the ground, using the rear rubber door seal for leverage.) Forced the black plastic on the inside section of the light, not the actual lense.

I have filed down the three retaining lugs on each light to make it easier to remove next time. And a dash of grease should do the trick.

Guess I now have an extra $65 in the cunning kit.

Re: Modifying Tail lights

Hi Brett,

Yeah, I've been through that many times and it is only hard to take-off the first time emoticon

I also was worried about breaking the tail-light, but I then I worked it out with the need to use a screwdriver and risk scratches.

The easiest way to do is to take-off the bolts, then stand in front of the tail-light (facing it) then stick your finger right at the top edge of the light and pull towards yourself.

Do NOT pull from the sides as this may cause the locking pins to break.

The first time you'll take off the lens some force may be required. After that it is much easier.

I can do it blind-folded now from so many times removing the tail-light to check the mod I have done emoticon

Re: Modifying Tail lights

I've been searching the forums trying to find an answer for this but cant seem to pin it down so pls excuse me (and move this) if its already somewhere.

The LED tail lights for the T30 look awesome.. Do T31 variants exist yet?

It would be very cool if they did, and had the top tail/stop modification included..

Ill have to plan a trip to Sydney to pic up my shopping list i think!

Cheers,

Re: Modifying Tail lights

Nope, the T31 LED Tail Lights do not exist as yet, but when I looked at the existing T31 tail light, I realized that the top section can be modified to include an additional parker/brake light exactly the same way I have previously modified my T30 tail lights (explained in this thread)

I was actually hoping that when the aftermarket tail lights are released for the T31, they would incorporate the reverse lights in them, as I find the current location of the reverse lights in the T31 is a bit useless and can be blocked easily.

Sorry Guys,

Our Russian friends have beaten you to it and while we were the first to modify our T30 tail lights, the Russians have claimed the spot in this case by modifying the T31 tail lights to include the additional brake/parker at the top emoticon

Whos' gonna claim the #1 spot in Australia? emoticon

I wish I had a T31 now emoticon

Re: Modifying Tail lights

In the Russian photo, it appears that the top lens has an orange tinge to it where as the bottom stop light is red.
Could this mean that the reflector isn't as good up the top.
