Re: XTrail Air Filter

Cool as Jalal.....

As Im really one of them Pseudo-4WD owners...yknow the sort that hardly ever goes off-road...and only got into the Xtrail for the pure love of wanting to Mod it till i go silly.....????

Yeah so...what Im getting at is....I guess I wouldnt be to bothered if the Cold air intake location was too low, as from what I understand...this will affect the vehicles ability to adapt to certain off-road situations....( read all of this at some AEM forum)

My desire is probably to give my Exi a bit of a "roar"...Heheheh....whilst improving performance of course...

I mean whats the point of havin 18" wheelies only to have them all ripped up on my first trip off road....????

Wheres the joy in that.....

Re: XTrail Air Filter

Maxi,

For me it's a bit different as I like to enjoy the performance as well as being able to have fun off-road (nothing serious, but I just loved Stockton Beach and would be going there again for some splash fun) hehehe.

For the record, I usually have my exy professionally cleaned inside and out (including the engine bay) after any off-road trip where salty conditions are present emoticon

As for the dry mud, I have fun cleaning that myself LOL

MaxiExy,

I'm with you. 99% on-road. 1% off-road. And into the performance/accessories stuff as well, just not too silly though. emoticon

Hey Noel, no room for silly mods on our forum. hehehe "just kidding"

That %1 is very important and you need to make sure that you have the right stuff on your exy when you attempt it emoticon No, chrome is not a requirement. hehehe

Re: XTrail Air Filter

Hi Robin,

I have read a lot about the possible mods to the air intake and filter, but I have never come across this one before, so I can't really give you an opinion about it.

The mod I'm thinking about is the Cold Air Intake with the by-pass valve for off-roading safely.

Have you tried searching around for reviews on this?

Re: XTrail Air Filter

I haven't commented on cold air intake before - I know little about this area, but comapred to other vehicles I have owned, the exxy air intake seems to achieve the avoidance of warm radiator/engine air by its placement at the front of the bonnet (all my previous cars have drawn in air from the engine bay).
I can see that the after market ones might be less restricted, so I am wondering if the main benefit is easier airflow?

Re: XTrail Air Filter

Hi Dave,

You're correct in saying that the air-intake placement of the exy is much better than other cars, but it is still placed within the engine bay and the build-up of the heat in this area is un-avoidable, unlike the CAI where the intake is placed outside of the engine bay and on a much lower point.

I have placed a thermometer sensor in the engine bay one day to check and I got a reading of up to 34 degrees when the car was idling. It'll be probably a bit less when the car is in motion.

Re: XTrail Air Filter

When in motion, the intake would take air moving into the engine bay through the gap at the edge of the bonnet? Is the wire on your temperature sensor long enough to check the temp at the mouth of the intake while travelling? David M.
