Bought through ebay from an Australian seller at a price that was just a touch under whats going at the moment. Arrived quickly, but the box was a little damaged and one end was opened. The filter appeared to still be sealed in thin plastic. Thing is, i am a little concerned about fakes as the filter has a lot of broken off bits of thin rubber on the clean and dirty side, where the media becomes impregnated with the rubber seal material. They appear to be thin strips leftover from the moulding process. I am concerned that these would break off on the clean side and cause issues. I am not sure this is a fake as there is a K&N logo and part number moulded in the side and it is oily, but it would bother me if it was genuine. Doesn't seem like a good idea to leave bits of rubber sitting around detached on the clean side... Anyone had this issue on your filters?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Vadermort)Wed, 06 Nov 2019 16:19:28 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2094028,from=rss#post2094028https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2094028,from=rss#post2094028Yep, Personally, I probably would not have changed it looking at that one ( yes, pink is original colour) as it's still in very good condition - but as you say, keep it as the spare just in case....nondisclosed_email@example.com (CaptK)Tue, 04 Jul 2017 15:29:30 +0000 Re: Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2094027,from=rss#post2094027https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2094027,from=rss#post2094027I changed the filter. But I'm a total noob so I wanted to run some things with you. What does "exy" mean? I'm backpacking across Australia and bought my xtrail second hand from a dealer. I just did oil and oil filter myself 7000km after purchase (210000km total). I'm just about to cross the Nelebor and I want to make sure I have a clean air filter. I've not yet opened the housing yet so I'm not sure what to find or how to identify if it's too dirty. Do all T30's have a paper type on from factory (or at least mine)? Because the manual mentions it can be viscous or paper type. If it's paper it should be possible to clean right? How do I clean this and what do I need to be aware of? Does it also need oiling or other spares (like gaskets) or can i just do it anytime without preparation and a garage (I don't have an address nor time to order in parts and I don't want to have my baby undressed and then find out I'm missing something). Is there a limit to what the paper type can be cleaned? Do they have to be replaced eventually and if so how do you recognise this as I don't have a complete maintenance history. If so, where can I get one and what is the part number or description? I've read all the things about K&N filter in this thread and it looks promising but maybe not for me since I'm selling it in 4 months. I do however notice substantial engine power loss when driving up hill.. My revs drop and at 80km/h I need to switch back to fourth gear. BUT my car is fully loaded, probably 250kg luggage in back and top and 2 passengers so I don't think switching to K&N will help me there. You tell me this now? Oh well, too late. I went ahead and reset the ECU straight away. Took it for a spin, and I must admit the engine did seem to run a little smoother. Not sure about a power gain. More like the same power, but more even. Felt like the engine wasn't choking for air, and chugging like it sometimes did. Or maybe it felt more responsive because I was putting my lead foot down a little more than usual. haha. Perhaps waiting a few more days will reveal further improvements. Oh and I got the groovy stickers in the box, which are now afixed to my air intake casings. Now I just have to figure out what the next modification will be. --- Stu. Engine seems to breath a little easier, as for performance it's very hard to tell, maybe ever so slightly better. Fuel consumption seems to remain about the same. It seems a step up from the paper filter, although the K&N would be the best for outright performance as discussed in the existing thread. All depends on your budget and what you wish to achieve. Checked it recently and there was not much soiling, will give a few more months and then clean it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (johnsey)Thu, 15 May 2008 20:53:21 +0000 Re: XTrail Air Filterhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2012571,from=rss#post2012571https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2012571,from=rss#post2012571Hi Johnsey, so you have had the Lukey air filter fitted for a while now, could you give us some feedback about its performance. Due to long working hours an interstate call from work was also out of the question. After a chat at the Bursons auto parts dealer i decided to give one ago. After a look at a K&N filter i made a judgement that the Lukey's structure (perosity of material used) is somewhere between the paper type and the K&N. The polyester material seems pretty resiliant and at around $40 for a washable filter is good value. A late model V8 commodore claims a 8Kw increase, just by changing from the standard one. The Exy could be perhaps a slight increase of 2 Kw. The first thing which i noticed was that idling is more smoother, lower RPM torque seems slightly better, and the tinny gurgling noise as the engine previously gasped for breath has definately been reduced. On asking about the filters dust capabilities, they answered it will cope with an average amount of offroading. Cleaning of filter is at roughly 6 month intervals or when it becomes soiled enough to reduce performance.      nondisclosed_email@example.com (johnsey)Sat, 08 Mar 2008 20:26:03 +0000 Re: XTrail Air Filterhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2009844,from=rss#post2009844https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2009844,from=rss#post2009844quote:johnsey wrote: Am currently in the process of finding the micron rating of this filter compared with the paper ones. While you look for the rating of the Lukey and Paper filters, here is the information and testing procedure done for the K&N which you can compare to the figures you will obtain: quote: What is the micron rating and filtering efficiency of the K&N filter? Air filters are not rated by micron size on an absolute basis. (See technical service bulletin 89-5R from the Filter Manufacturer's Council) The proper rating system for air filters is a testing procedure developed to measure the efficiency of the filtration media at varying micron sizes. We routinely subject a sample of our air filters to this testing procedure conducted by independent laboratories. The primary purpose of this testing is to ensure that our air filter designs meet or exceed automotive industry standards. Until recently filtration tests were performed in accordance with the Society of Automotive Engineer's (SAE) J726 testing procedure, however, we now use the ISO 5011procedure which that superseded the SAE procedure. The content of the test dust used in accordance with the SAE testing procedure is as follows: Particle Size in Microns/ % by Volume (+/- 3%) <5.5 13 5.5 to 11 /11 11 to 22 /13 22 to 44 /19 44 to 88 /28 88 to 176 /16 Our testing has demonstrated that on average, K&N air filters have an overall efficiency rating of between 97 and 99%. With proper cleaning K&N air filters will protect your engine for the life of your vehicle. * Source: K&N Website. Most of us keep the paper filter aside exactly for this purpose when we buy the K&N and it is the recommendation I make to everyone buying the K&N. This eliminates the need to sacrifice power on a daily driving basis (with the UniFilter), as you're not expected to be driving off-road everyday. nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Thu, 21 Feb 2008 08:12:39 +0000
