Re: AT tyres
Shane,
Did you ask how much these tyres were selling for?
I'll be upgrading my wheels and tyres to either 16" or 17", so I'm just waiting for my tyres to go bald (still less than half way used only), then I will start shopping around.
My 1st option would be to score 16" Series 2 Ti alloys and then shop around for tyres.
The good news to you guys is that my existing 15" alloys would be up for sale once I complete the above conversion.

Re: AT tyres
RS,
I always thought that more tyre wall height was better, as I've stuck my head out the window when going over rocks and other irregular surfaces and seen how much the tyres squish around (and that was even at normal road pressures!), so this is why I thought the bigger the sidewall, the better.
If you go for a larger rim size, then the sidewall will actually need to be smaller to keep the same rolling diameter. Less sidewall also means a rougher ride due to less flexing in the sidewall (pot-holes more noticeable) and there's more chance that the rim could be damaged due to this, as well.
If you're more concerned about better cornering than ride comfort or offroadability, then smaller sidewalls are better.
If you go to extreme (eg: "plus 3", which is from a 15inch rim to an 18inch rim), safety can be affected - ie: ABS isn't calibrated to such small sidewalls because there isn't as much sidewall to absorb the smaller bumps & holes in the road, and then ABS kicks in alot more often. That's from experience with my pulsar (standard tyre size was 195/50R15 and I had 215/35R18's), but I think you'd probably need to go to a 19 or 20inch rim on the X-Trail for it to get to that stage!
