Re: X-Trail extra seating

Ahh well the seats in, looks good. And instead of being stuck driving a minivan or something just as ugly, my family is driving in style. I get your point paulX. There are only so many options out there. The seats are very well secured to the car. Main points are welded in to the spare wheel well. Comes with compliance plates and 5 Year warranty. Here's hoping my family will be safe and well. emoticon Will now be having a Hayman Reece Towbar installed for the extra strength as much as the towing factor.

Re: X-Trail extra seating

Paul,

When I was experimenting with adding an extra seat at the back of the exy I also noticed one very important factor and that was the super close proximity of the seat to the tailgate inside the car, leaving almost no space at all for any luggage, but that is beside the point.

I share your concerns about the un-safe location of these seats in the xtrail and I am somewhat astonished by the fact that Retro Seating (the company manufacturing and installing them) have managed to pass and obtain a safety rating regarding these seats through ADR knowing too well how stringent and tough Australian safety regulations are in this regard.

I can only hope that their tests included a crash test to see the impact it may cause to occupants (who can only be kids due to the size and position of these seats) in case of a rear end accident.

Regardless of their legality and safety ratings, I wouldn't risk to have my kids sitting at the back in them and I don't want to find-out how tough these seats or my exy is (with a towbar) when the un-thinkable happens, as it may be too late to reconsider!

I wonder if they crash tested these seats?
I really need 7-seats but cannot afford to upgrade the x-trail. May give Retro a call. You have the spare wheel under that area so I would not thing it would crumple too far.

Mmmm looks like they reinforced the floor and made it hinge up.
Also by the look of the 'racing harness' style seat belts and the leg room, I'd say the seat is only compatible for small children.

Re: X-Trail extra seating

That is correct Tony, a carpeted false floor is added and the seats are hinged. All of the extra seats that get added in cars are meant to be used by children only due to safety and weight restrictions.
