Re: new video footage - deepest creek crossing so far!
Hi Rich,
The crossing looks great and adventurous.
Driving in some streets of Sydney after heavy rain and blocked drainage is the deepest crossing I could manage thus far so when I look at this video I can only imagine what I'll be doing inside the car

Re: new video footage - deepest creek crossing so far!
Nope, it barely reached the headlights. The reason for the speed is because the current was deceptively fast and strong, it's not at all apparent in that movie because the water is so clear, but it had been raining a fair bit for the 3 days prior to us passing through and even though the water had subsided substantially (we were told it was over a meter underwater the day before). Just as we arrived there some poor bloke towing his jetski with an old stock subaru needed to be pulled out after he lost traction and was pulled downstream to the east side where you see the water is rushing over rocks.
xtrails have the air intake right at the front of the engine bay just under the bonnet lip, so if I was going to cross a bonnet-deep creek I'd be aiming for about the same speed anyway I reckon, otherwise the chance of water flowing into the air intake would be too high without having a pocket of air being pushed in front.
