Re: Performance Enhancers

hi fellow xtrailers, this is my 1st foray into the world of [sign in to see URL] been following the forum on performance enhancers & thought i would just let you know what i have done to my xtrail. Vehicle:-Series 2 ti-L auto fitted with 225/70/16 bf goodrich all terrains, king springs,2 hiclones, k&n air filter.I have removed rear muffler & replaced with sports muffler exitting via twin tail pipes(pictures under xtrailing mods - victoria)removed middle resinator & have just picked up vehicle after having it away for a week having a set of extractors custom made by a performance exhaust centre down here. Need to evaluate & then return in about 2 weeks to have check, if everything is ok then they will put them into production & release them to the [sign in to see URL] only driven 5to10k's since they have gone on but have noticed a smoother power delivery across rev range, no more sudden urge at 3000rpm, pulls stronger from lower in the rev range which is what i wanted for towing. sorry its a bit long winded but i thought you might be interested. will keep you informed on progress.

Re: Performance Enhancers

Hi Xtrailing and welcome to the forums.

Looks like a pretty mean machine you have there from the looks of the photos.

Would be able to let us know how much some or all of these accessories cost you? I’m particularly interested in the cost of the extractors by themselves and perhaps the total cost of the exhaust upgrade.

I’m speculative on the hiclones, do you feel these actually work? And you have two?

The king springs look like they have raised the vehicle, by how much?

Would you think all your mods would be covered under warranty with Nissan. Not the mods but the rest of the vehicle, or are you not particularly concerned about this?

 emoticon

Cheers

Re: Performance Enhancers

Hi Xtrailing,

Very nice pics of your exy there and I can certainly see the 25mm lift even from the pics.

We did talk about the suspension lift in another thread, but when Shane (titanx04) approached nissan australia about it, they said it's not covered by warranty and if anything goes wrong, we will be on our own, so I've disounted that idea (until I run-out of warranty).

But I would be very interested in a bit more detail about the muffler conversion and how much does it cost.

Keep us updated please and post more pics if you can.

As Noel said, welcome to our forums and we hope to keep hearing from you.

Your Exy has certainly been given a dose of "Performance Enhancers" emoticon

Re: Performance Enhancers

Thought the extractors might create some interest! I dont have a price on the extractors as yet cause I have to take the car back in 2 weeks so some tolerence checks can be done & I can give them some feedback, but had a couple of quotes from local exhayst shops & they wanted around about 8 - $900. The extractors do away with the manifold(obviously) & the cat. The cat has been replaced(good thing from the sound of the series 1 recalls)by a free flow unit mounted under the engine/transmission. Took vehicle for a good drive today & it holds overdrive locked so much better than it used to. Power delivery is a lot smoother through the rev range. Even V8 petrol heads reckon it sounds good!!
The rear muffler/resinator removal/replacement was about $200 & had an effect on performance.
As for the hiclones, these units are $165 each ( luckilly the ones from my old serries 2 V8 discovery fitted) and have had a minor effect on performance. Last November I towed our poptop van (1500kg) to Robe SA (for a play in the sand). On the way back decided to remove 1 of the hiclones(very easy job to do) & immediately noticed a difference, only mionor but noticable enough to be noticed, was reinstalled not far down the road. On the fuel economy side of it (which is another one of their claims) I haven't kept any records to see & the units were fitted when the vehicle had less than 1000k's so it hadn't freed up as yet. The units are fitted, 1 directly after the air flow meter & 1 directly before the throttle body.
Found a very noticable improvement after the k&n filter was installed (even the wife noticed & she's blonde!!). I wont be using it for prolonged dusty driving as I am sceptical on the ability to filter large volumes of dust for a prolonged period, but is ok for general driving.
Now for the warranty side of things well Nissan would have to prove that the modifications contributed to the failure. The mods/accessories are obviously not covered by the factory Nissan warranty but will be covered by their own manufacturers warranty.
I had the vehicle booked in to Air Power Systems to have a unichip fitted but pulled out at last minute to investigate the extractors before having it done, again they hadn't done one before so I was to be the guinea pig. May still look at having it done after some more investigation(cost is about $1200), it's a fair investment for an unknown result.

Hi XTrailing

Can you tell me where the photos of your lifted XTrail are? I can't see any link on your previous posts.

I sent you a PM but you may not have got it.

Thanks

Re: Performance Enhancers

Sorry all, my fault.

I have the "Main Chat" screen set in favourites and rarely go the home page of the site. I found the photos late last night.

Thanks again.

Re: Performance Enhancers

Hi Boyz,

Just tested my newly fitted NGK Iridium IX "Superman" plugs and what can I say?

Took it for a test drive down the street and the xtrail turned into a bloody rocket LOL emoticon

Nah, am just exaggerating a bit "just a bit" emoticon

Seriously though, I can't tell if the increase in power at acceleration is now attributed to the K&N filter or the plugs, but there is definitely more power coming from somewhere emoticon

It would be a good if one of you guys buys the iridium plugs and tests them out with the stock filter to see if the plugs are the cause of that power.

I might fit the old filter back and compare myself if I have time.

I reckon they were worth the money spent on them. (Thanks for your help Noel) emoticon

 emoticon

I got rid of my stock standard air filter when I replaced it with the K&N. I should have kept it for testing.
