Re:

Exywarriror,

My opinion on Coopers is based on nothing more than personal experience with the three sets i have owned, and the numerous other sets that people close to me have used.

Coopers advertised very hard on the warranty aspect of their tyres, yet in every single instance that i have seen, failed to honour it. A little research will show that this is apparently quite common, and not related to the manner in which they are looked after.

Many that have failed prematurely have never been offroad, and always rotated and maintained at the correct pressure. The evidence was clear and not in dispute. Granted, the majority of complaints either came from the ST or the STT, the so called flagship tyres from Coopers, even so, its enough for me to steer well clear of them in the future, and in all good conscience, certainly couldn't recommend them to anyone, i just wouldn't take the risk. Many have been happy with them like you, and that's great.

I have had two sets of STT's and one set of ST's in various sizes, they were by far, the worst performing tyre i have ever owned. They were crap grip wise, they handled atrociously, were terribly noisy on the road, and i had two, from different sets, de-laminate on me on the highway, when they were at correct pressure, and not all that old, never seen off road work. I used the Coopers because people liked them and they were popular, i was disappointed, id rather not be the one who gives that same advice.

I could detail at least 4 other cases of similar issues that i have been close to, but i will stick to those that affected me directly.

So my opinion is just that, based on my personal experiences, and those that i have personally witnessed, not he said, she said, or my mates friend's brother said....

Just an opinion nothing more.

Re: Re:

Thanks for writing back. Sounds like you've had a rough trot.

Being a self-confessed "softroader" I shied away from the chunkier tyres because I wanted to avoid the road noise generally associated with them and I wanted the best grip on the highways, where I spend a lot of my time. I'm a high mileage driver - my Exy has just turned 3 years old and has already covered nearly 70,000km. My colleagues told me a lot of good feedback on the Cooper CS4 so getting the CS5 seemed a natural progression.

I understand why you and others might be a little jaded about the brand but for the time being, I am extremely impressed with them.

Hi Jalal,

Just looking at getting some new rubber, and curious if you have the Pirelli Scorpion Verde, or the Scorpion Verde "All Season". From what I've the the "All Season" is a 'green' tyre that doesn't wear so well.

I'm keen to hear how yours are going and which model you have.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Mine is the 225/55R18 98V SCORPION VERDE (not all season) and they have been very good tyres from the day I fitted them. Very quiet and awesome in the wet.

Re:

Thanks Jalal.

Seems to be very little difference in price between the Pirellis and Coopers (in 17 inch form). Might wait until next week to see if any EOFY deals pop up.

FYI all, the Pireillis are $216, although this may be the 'green' tyre (which has bad reviews around feathering) and I need to confirm. Coopers are $233. I haven't chased around much yet, so may see some cheaper.

Cheers,
Mark

Re:

I paid $245 for mine (fitted and balanced) including wheel alignment a year ago. Mine are 18" by the way, so they would be a bit dearer than 17" which is what you have I believe.

Actually now that I realised I had them for a year the wear on them still looks like I fitted them yesterday. Admittedly we have only done 11,000kms with them since then LOL emoticon

Re:

has anyone tried putting 235/55R18 tyres on the standard sreies 4/5 TI/TL wheels.

the 225/55R18 sizes as we know are quite expensive but the 235/55R18 seems to be cheaper with a bigger range (ford territory shares this size).

just looking at different options.

Re: Replacement Tyres

Put 5 of these on the Xtrail today - in the stock 215/65x16 size.

$200 each fitted at my local small independent tyre service - apparently they have been fitting them to a number of XTrails, Foresters, and other SUVs with good results. Will see how they go I suppose !

Hi Gang,
What are your suggestions for a 225/60R17 tyre for 90% on road and 10% off road with no 'real' 4x4ing involved. My stock Dunlop ST20's are hard and show signs of age and they are super noisy!

I am looking at the Bridgestone Ecopia H/T EP850, when I replace the tyres on my T32 TL.

Cheers
