Re: New article on tyres and wheels

Iv'e just got me some new wheels and tyres from Bob Jane Campbelltown. $1480 for Pirelli Scorpion STR 215/65/16.
Previously had toyo on steel rims for 53,000klm. So I now have 4 x wheel trims in excellent condition, for sale.
The ride actually does feel more controlled; even if there is about 10 % more noise.

Re: New article on tyres and wheels

what sort of wheels did you score for that price?

Put-up your rims in the "for sale" section if you wish to get better exposure.

Re: New article on tyres and wheels

Hi Clem,

AMG is a good rim. I've seen some chrome ones at Bob Jane when I was shopping around for alloys and they looked awesome.

HERE how you can post photos with your replies. Try ImageShack it's nice and easy.

Re: New article on tyres and wheels

hi big ted i have had my st xtrail since march 2004.purchaced brand new i have done 15,000 kls i.just changed over the steel 15,in" rims for 16"in alloys .same as a mazda tribute or ford explorer lmtd edition pattern rim .as they are load rated for the ex trail i am running yokahamas go11+11 tyres as there are limeted types of tyres for these rims that will fit under x trails my 16"in tyres are running at the same rolling diamiter as my 15"in tyres .so i can still use my 15"in tyre as a spare.TTF GIVE ME $300 for my 4 tyres that were on the exxy. They look all right you notice the noise a bit more but i now have AT tyres on her wich is what i wanted. i have just joined this site so i am still trying to work out how it works my handle is xteecee..

Welcome to the X-Trail forum, XTEECEE!

I guess you're in Victoria, as I don't think there are any TTF stores in NSW (I remember seeing their ad's in Hot4's magazine a couple of years ago indicating they had stores in Victoria).

Feel free to visit the introductions forum and reply to one of the recent threads there so you can introduce yourself abit better emoticon

Happy trails!

Re: New article on tyres and wheels

Hi Xteecee,
Do you know the width of your 16" rims, the Yokohama site indicates that 7" rims were desirable for this tyre, but was wondering if 6.5" rims would work? How much more noticeable is the noise with the Yokohamas, one or two notches on the radio volume control, or annoyingly loud. How is the grip on bitumen, I have never been impressed by the grip of the Toyos and would expect the A/T Yokohamas to at least match the Toyos on road, and way out perform them off road. Has this been your experience?

Regards,
Big Ted

posticon Re: New article on tyres and wheels

hi big ted how ya going these wheel and tyre issues are an ongoing saga i have spent months going over this issue with tyre companys .and there are not a lot of tyres to suit the size rims i have got these are 16x7JJ.now if they were 15" rims the same as the steel rims that come standard you can get what ever you want as far as AT tyres go ..you can slap any rim that fits AU or BA falcon same stud pattern .same offset, diffrent thread on studs, but they are not load rated ,so it could muck up your insurance,be carefull,
the yokys do hum a bit but not exccesive i would say ,probably radio volume um not to loud .you know you have offroad tyres on .i find the steering a lot better not as floaty as before ,not as light, more feel.
the difrence i find with the tranpaths is ,as you know its a bit damp in geelong at the momentand frosty in the mornings.i found wih the toyos they would slip and screech on the white lines at intersectios.
but the yokohamas dont do this .so yes better than h/t pattern tyres for sure havent experianced aquaplaning as yet on any of the tyres in the wet ,but have only had the yokohamas on since,17/06/05..hope this helps a bit but you need to ask lots of questions.about this stuff..see yah
