You sure know what youre talking about. I did decide to keep the box sealed because I wanted a cleaner sound. If I wanted to I'm sure I could get it louder by porting it. I have plans to make a false floor around the amplifiers so only the top is visable. should look sweet. The amplifiers were not drilled into the floor but we placed a sheet of wood under the carpet to drill it in to. oh i also used 0-guage Grills are a good idea but I did find when you put half the cargo blind down it covers the subs. I normally do this when I got shopping. nondisclosed_email@example.com (kenzoXTrail)Mon, 22 Aug 2005 11:56:52 +0000 Re: Loudest X-Trail in Aust?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875187,from=rss#post875187https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875187,from=rss#post875187Hi Paul. I'm not sure if you've seen my thread on sub boxes here http://com1.runboard.com/baustralianxtrail.fqa.t24 yet. I haven't measured mine, but I can tell you it's louder than the reading you've got on that meter (and so is yours)... With more years experience in car audio than I can count on two hands, I don't know where to begin without turning this reply into a massive tutorial... For starters, there's different "weighting" for measuring sound - "A" is an adjusted curve to replicate what the ear hears, and "C" is more a flat curve. "C" is the weighting that should is used for measuring the total loudness of your stereo, and will display a much higher number than if you used "A" weighting. Two subs are generally louder than 1 sub by only 3dB. So doubling the number (or surface area) or doubling the power input to the sub will give you 3dB more output on the meter. Because decibels is a logarithmic scale, you need to have an increase of 10dB for it to appear to sound twice as loud to your ears. Then there is a whole lot of other factors such as the size of airspace inside the car, which way the subs are facing (rearwards like yours is generally best for higher output), and if the design of the box (sealed like yours appears to be, or ported like all the boxes I've ever made are). Ported is always louder than sealed, but sealed has a much more pleasant and natural sound. I could go on forever, but I'll let all that soak in for now I like the shape of your box - nice and compact and unobtrusive. However, I'd recommend making a cover/grille for the subs to proetect them from stray shopping in the boot (I haven't made one for mine yet, either) and also I think it's important to make up a cover for the amplfiers so they don't get stepped on, as inevitably you will have passengers in the back at some stage. Also being a 4WD, I'd be wary of creek-crossing now you've (probably) drilled/screwed holes in your floor to mount the amplifiers... David - I've got a removable box with the amplifier mounted on it. See above linked thread for more details. Gordon - the threshold of pain varies with frequency. 120dB of say 30Hz, you could quite easily have a conversation over, however 120dB anywhere around 1000-5000Hz would send you running in the opposite direction, because our ears are most sensitive around that frequency range. Jaycar's "screamer" sirens are around this frequency and I had installed 3 of them inside one of my previous cars, connected up to the alarm - to make the would-be thief not want to stay in the car for very long (I would imagine it's abit hard to steal a car or it's contents while covering your ears!) nondisclosed_email@example.com (basshead)Sun, 21 Aug 2005 02:39:37 +0000 Re: Loudest X-Trail in Aust?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875186,from=rss#post875186https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875186,from=rss#post875186Hey, The box can be removed easily. slides right out. it is angled front and back so you can put back seats down and move box right to front seats nondisclosed_email@example.com (kenzoXTrail)Sat, 20 Aug 2005 23:50:40 +0000 Re: Loudest X-Trail in Aust?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875185,from=rss#post875185https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875185,from=rss#post875185Looks fantastic Paul Are the subs mounted in a removable box? Or are they permanently mounted? I would love to have some subs in the back but I would need to be able to take them out to use the boot with the seats down.nondisclosed_email@example.com (dviv)Sat, 20 Aug 2005 20:57:54 +0000 Re: Loudest X-Trail in Aust?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875184,from=rss#post875184https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875184,from=rss#post875184Hey, Na its a sony DIN tray to connect a mp3 player too. Just put it in to test. Did'nt fit xtrail so took it out and put a Nissan pocket in so it's all flush now. nondisclosed_email@example.com (kenzoXTrail)Sat, 20 Aug 2005 18:43:07 +0000 Re: Loudest X-Trail in Aust?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875183,from=rss#post875183https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875183,from=rss#post875183Excellent stuff Paul I clicked on this thread to open it and as soon as I did my wife told me to "TURN DOWN THE VOLUME" as our house was shaking. hehehe Mate, you don't even need to use your horn when passing other cars (who are not giving you way), just open your windows and give em some bass LOL Look forward to the specs. Is that a TV monitor in the dash in the second DIN slot?nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 20 Aug 2005 08:08:31 +0000 Re: Loudest X-Trail in Aust?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875182,from=rss#post875182https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875182,from=rss#post875182Isn't the threshold of pain somewhere around 115 to 120dB? You don't need a immobiliser whith that stereo.... Just hook the radio up so it goes full volume if someone opens the door without unlocking it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (gordont)Fri, 19 Aug 2005 21:23:06 +0000 Loudest X-Trail in Aust?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875181,from=rss#post875181https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p875181,from=rss#post875181Hey all, Sorry haven't posted the pics of the new system yet here are a few pics.. I'll put the specs up soon. I got 109db but I have new plans to get over 115db. Let me know what you think... nondisclosed_email@example.com (kenzoXTrail)Fri, 19 Aug 2005 21:07:30 +0000
