Re:

just thought id add that i got a replacement rear muffler just the very last bit with a smaller unit and i got it mounted up as high as possible the local muffler shop has done a few of these and instead of the tail pipe exiting the drivers side it is now exiting on the passenger side. when it comes to the noise side of things he had previous complaints before me so he has a more expensive muffler which is 1. smaller in size and 2. puts off the exact same noise level. So it still sounds stock and absolutely no droning. I had my subaru's exhaust done there and it was a bit noisy so I'm happy with this unit it cost me $210 and after testing it up at mt tambourine on a fire track massive up hill and bumps there was not one spot my exy hit which amazed everyone there including myself.. this is not by any means a hp gain item it was purely for hight clearance with i suffered with on duck creek road so when it comes for height for $$ it was worth every penny. Next on my list is a full under body bash plate to continue from my custom front one... happy X trailing

Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)

Hi Guys,

I reckon my eccie's exhaust system may have up to 12 months life expectancy left and wanted to get some feedback whether it is worth spending that little bit extra on a set of headers the seme time the exhaust system requires changing. At the end of the day, I surely do not want to spend an arm and leg, but all I want is extra torque and towing power when required. In saying that, I received feedback from an exhaust specialist stating that I am truly wasting serious cash if I decide to include headers/extractors to a new exhaust system.

Re:

I think you need to decide first on what you are really wanting to achieve by this modification, replacing a rusty and/or damaged factory exhaust system to prolong the life of your car or replace it for performance gains purposes.

There is no such thing as wanting a bit of extra power and torque when it comes to full exhaust system modifications, you either do it properly and get the expected results from an exhaust system upgrade or don't do it at all and grab a replacement factory exhaust components from the wreckers.

Yes there is certainly some ground work to do before a final decision is made and your reply has been worthwhile. The varying feedback I have received from exhaust specialists here in SA has been somewhat surprising.

When the time comes, I'll probably lean towards a full S/Steel system including extractors coupled with a High Flow Cat Converter for extra towing power & increased fuel efficiency. What I found which is quite surprising was Mild Steel was only approx 30% cheaper than the Stainless system.

Yes, mild steel would be much cheaper than stainless steel but it no where near as durable.

Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)

Afternoon all. "popped" in to my local muffler shop this afternoon after being recommended to them from the guys I got my tyres off. Ended up getting the stock muffler replaced there and then, $200 all in. Much better departure angle now.

Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)

Hi Beni, the exhaust note is exactly the same as the stock mate, couldn't be bothered with a loud exhaust, especially if we're doing long trips etc.
I've got a motorcycle that deafens me if I don't wear ear plugs emoticon
