The varying feedback I have received from exhaust specialists here in SA has been somewhat surprising. When the time comes, I'll probably lean towards a full S/Steel system including extractors coupled with a High Flow Cat Converter for extra towing power & increased fuel efficiency. What I found which is quite surprising was Mild Steel was only approx 30% cheaper than the Stainless system.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nico05)Wed, 11 Apr 2012 13:43:22 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061483,from=rss#post2061483https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061483,from=rss#post2061483I think you need to decide first on what you are really wanting to achieve by this modification, replacing a rusty and/or damaged factory exhaust system to prolong the life of your car or replace it for performance gains purposes. There is no such thing as wanting a bit of extra power and torque when it comes to full exhaust system modifications, you either do it properly and get the expected results from an exhaust system upgrade or don't do it at all and grab a replacement factory exhaust components from the wreckers.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Wed, 11 Apr 2012 11:51:42 +0000 Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061482,from=rss#post2061482https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061482,from=rss#post2061482 Hi Guys, I reckon my eccie's exhaust system may have up to 12 months life expectancy left and wanted to get some feedback whether it is worth spending that little bit extra on a set of headers the seme time the exhaust system requires changing. At the end of the day, I surely do not want to spend an arm and leg, but all I want is extra torque and towing power when required. In saying that, I received feedback from an exhaust specialist stating that I am truly wasting serious cash if I decide to include headers/extractors to a new exhaust system. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nico05)Wed, 11 Apr 2012 10:48:51 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059981,from=rss#post2059981https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059981,from=rss#post2059981just thought id add that i got a replacement rear muffler just the very last bit with a smaller unit and i got it mounted up as high as possible the local muffler shop has done a few of these and instead of the tail pipe exiting the drivers side it is now exiting on the passenger side. when it comes to the noise side of things he had previous complaints before me so he has a more expensive muffler which is 1. smaller in size and 2. puts off the exact same noise level. So it still sounds stock and absolutely no droning. I had my subaru's exhaust done there and it was a bit noisy so I'm happy with this unit it cost me $210 and after testing it up at mt tambourine on a fire track massive up hill and bumps there was not one spot my exy hit which amazed everyone there including myself.. this is not by any means a hp gain item it was purely for hight clearance with i suffered with on duck creek road so when it comes for height for $$ it was worth every penny. Next on my list is a full under body bash plate to continue from my custom front one... happy X trailingnondisclosed_email@example.com (krisskross1985)Fri, 27 Jan 2012 21:48:20 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2050834,from=rss#post2050834https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2050834,from=rss#post2050834Their system is mild steel so it is misleading to be putting a photo of a stainless steel ceramic coated system to advertise their product which is no where near the quality of the hi-tech system. Having said that, the price of their system certainly reflects the quality but still lacks proof in terms of performance gains and durability. While I have nothing against them, unfortunately the HiTech system is still well out of reach financially (well it was last time I looked). There is no point in changing the headers and keeping the rest of the stock exhaust system the same and in any case when you change the headers you will be forced to change the first half of the exhaust system to include a cat. converter which is part of the headers in the factory set-up.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Thu, 02 Sep 2010 13:34:17 +0000 Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2045490,from=rss#post2045490https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2045490,from=rss#post2045490Hey Guys looking for some quiet headers. =) please share your experiences out there. I don't have the dyno results, Darren may have them. Drove the Xtrail this morning, and its the first time I have been able to give it a good try out. Very impressed with the added power, certainly more pick up after 4000 revs, nearly more fun to drive than my modified VY SS. My rear muffler is only small, so it does get loud after 4000, but noise hasn't changed at cruising speeds that I have noticed. Well, the headers and high flow cat (what brand and specs?) form the bulk and main part of the exhaust system and the rest is pipes and resonators, so the gain provided is still low with those mods compared to an existing cat. back system that can provide 9KW gains by itself. I'd still be interested to see the proven gains of their systems as well as the cat. converter type they use, so we can make a comparison to other systems. 14KW gain as a result of a full exhaust system upgrade is less than expected, so maybe Darren needs to look at having one of the xtrails with the new system dynoed to get confirmed readings, as I believe the gains should be more than that. Price-wise, the system is very attractive indeed.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Thu, 12 Aug 2010 05:46:46 +0000 Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2044924,from=rss#post2044924https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2044924,from=rss#post2044924Difilipo Headers.
