Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)

Has anyone fitted an after market muffler of any sort and if so what was the out come. I have tried a couple of friends mufflers cannon style and a nearly straight through oval both had a drone at cruising speed noise was acceptable with oval but way to loud with cannon. Any help with this would be appreciated
Cheers
Dave

Re: stainless steel muffler (aftermarket)

Dave,

Did you look in the Performance Thread for the stainless steel muffler option for the exy.

Also, in the tail-pipe mod thread, I have mentioned a company called Hi-Tech mufflers and these guys also carry a wide range of stainless steel mufflers and they can replace the entire pipe all the way from the cat. converter.

I know someone from this forum is gonna have it done soon, but I wont say who at this stage emoticon

Nope, it's not me!

I'll move this thread to the FAQ section for the time being.

Re: stainless steel muffler (aftermarket)

I am not shy Jalal!! emoticon

It is me who is getting the replacement cat-back system fitted by Hi-Tech soon, this Saturday in fact!! emoticon

If you want to wait until next week I can give you a full review of the system once it is done, I am also planning to take before and after photos when it is up on the ramps.

I am getting a cat-back stainless steel exhaust with resonator (possibly two, I can't recall now what he said they would put in) and a single muffler centered (unlike the stock unit!) and with twin exits, chrome tipped - I can decide on the tip style once it is all fitted, to see what looks good.

They assured me that it would not be loud but deeper and a lot less restrictive than the stock system, so hopefully the engine can breath more easily. We will see.

I will write a full review early next week when I have done a few trips in it.

hehehe Adam, well you have just spoiled the surprise LOL

In any case, please promise me that I'll be the 1st (after you of course) to hear it and see it emoticon

Dave: Hi-Tech mufflers have offices nation-wide and if they don't have one there, they'll direct you to one of their authorised installers.

Sounds good Adam! I don't want to pry (ok I do but I'm trying to be polite)... roughly (just a ball park figure) would one expect to pay for such a system?

Re: stainless steel muffler (aftermarket)

Naff, they have quoted me $880 supplied and fitted. That is cat-back and as the cat is right up near the engine that means it is quite a long bit of pipe, approx 2 hours work to fit. That also includes my choice of chrome tip.

There are probably cheaper systems available but these guys know their stuff and it will not be a loud system.

Well, tomorrow morning my X goes under the spanner for major muffler surgery. If all goes well recovery should be swift and painless.

Wish us luck! emoticon

Best of luck Adam.

We'll be waiting for you with lights and cameras emoticon

As this will be a "performance enhancement" operation, please use the existing thread to post your report when it's all done.

Re: stainless steel muffler (aftermarket)

Hi Adam
Did you get to keep your original muffler?
I have looked at the muffler and it looks like there is a space for another outlet on the opposing end, you could cut a hole in it and have two pipes coming out of the existing muffler not sure if this is possible but now someone that doesnt require there muffler anymore like yourself could try this. Just a thought
