Re: Head lights and Fog Lights Modifications & Upgrades

Hi Joel,

The T31 fog lights are being discussed in THIS thread.

There is an aftermarket option available for the T31.

It depends on which brand you get, not all white/blue bulbs are good and yes, most of them will annoy the hell out of the oncoming traffic.

If you can't afford the HID upgrade (around the $350.00 mark), I think you should seriously consider a set of IPF Fatboy bulbs $100+ a pair. These are 60/80 watt but they put out the equivalent to 130/150 watt because of the fatter globe.

Rounder in shape but will still fit the standard H4 bulb and won't melt your harness. They can be found at any ARB store as they're the only supplier that sells them.

Re: Head lights and Fog Lights Modifications & Upgrades

A big problem with all foggies are the reflector, not the globe.
like you say, the Commodore ones are super bright and that is maimly cause of the reflector design.

So an upgrade of new lights would be the way to go. There are some on ebay from the states that claim to be super bright.

Admin Edit: eBay link removed. The eBay item is referring to set of aftermarket fog lights that do NOT fit correctly in place and require major modification as reported earlier in this thread.

That is because they are FOG lights and NOT driving lights.
The reflector design for a fog light spreads the light in a horizontal pattern for illumination under the fog layer while a driving light pattern throws the light forward in a concentrated beam for distance illumination.

The replacement lights from ebay which Tony shows a link to are advertised as driving lights fit into the fog light recess of the bumper. Just be careful because they are advertised as fitting all 01-09 Xtrails but the Series 1 (01-03) has a larger fog light mounting hole than the Series 2 (03-08).

Actually Kev, they will fit neither of them and the guys who bought this particular brand of foggies from the US quickly found out they were a universal type that required major mods before they can be fitted.

In regards to the xtrail fog lights, they simply are too weak to be used as a driving aid, unless you change them to HID. Their main purpose as stated correctly is to be used as FOG lights.
