Re: Suspension Lift

Hi Guys,

I'm posting this reply on behalf of Mal and it would also explain why he can't make it to the forums at the moment:

quote:

Hi Jalal,

I am so busy and not getting time to log in now days.

Work and also renovations at a property I have.

Pedders at Mascot set the springs at a 45mm lift, and they settle down about
5mm in a few days, so lift is 40mm overall.

They used TrackRyder springs. I also had another store say 30mm lift and
settle 5mm to 25mm, but Mascot was different.

The cost was $600 installed, which is a good price. Maybe worth a call. The
difference is very noticeable in handling and corners and offroad.

Cheers for now,

Malcolm

Re: Suspension Lift

Also just finshed changing over my springs to King Springs. Front and rear gave me a lift of 480mm from centre of wheel to wheel arch. I was suprised that the front and rear were the same would think rear would be higher. Can some one please tell me the height of a stock x-trail.

Thanks

Andrew

Re: Suspension Lift

Andrew,

Just went and measured up.

Front- 460.5mm
Rear - 470.5mm

Those measurements are from wheel Centre to Bottom of Guard Lip

So the result that you acheived with Change is more than Double.

Please send photos.

P.S could you please measure the height from gound to door Sill/ (step if fitted)

Re: Suspension Lift

Shane,

Sorry have no side steps to measure off. Took another measurement from ground to wheel arch 795mm. Is your car stock height? If so, l wasted a lot of time and money in getting only a 10mm lift. Im sure Im more than 10mm over stock. Sorry dont have a camera, going back to Japan June 3rd so will get one then and post photos.

Thanks

Andrew

Re: Suspension Lift

Andrew,
Yes mine is stock height running the 15/70series tyres at 34 pound.

From ground to wheel Arch is
770.5mm Front
780.5mm Rear.

This makes it a lift of

25 & 15mm lift

I would be interested to see what others measure at. Because I think mine is lower at times when next to other xtrails.

Where are you located at?

Re: Suspension Lift

FYI...

To get an accurate measurement of the increase in spring ride height - the reason you can't take the measurement from the ground to the bottom of the wheel arch (or anywhere else on the body from the ground for that matter) is that by doing it that way, you are also adding the depth of the tyre tread and any slight differences in tyre profile/rim diameter into the equation...

If this doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try and explain it better emoticon

Re: Suspension Lift

Do you measure it from say the centre of the wheel hub to the mudguard edge.If you put the same wheels and tires back on it would give you a reasonable measurement surely from the ground to the mudguard edge.My old hi-lux which you could adjust the torsion bars on the front end was measured from the ground to a point right in the centre of the inner lower suspension arm bolt.Had to done on a very level floor and i always checked it a week or so later and sometimes it did move a little.Interested to hear the proper way to do it.

Re: Suspension Lift

Thought I would give you some different readings of the measurements from my vehicle. Measurement from ground to wheel arch - front 795 rear 805mm, centre of hub to wheel arch - front 465 rear 470mm, My preferred method from bottom of rim(tape measure hooked under rim ) to wheel arch - front 685 rear 690mm. In both methods either from centre of rim & from under rim there is only 5mm difference between front & rear, whereas from the ground there is 10mm difference between front & rear readings obviously due to difference in tyre pressures. Springs are Kings done 10,000k's unfortunately I dont have the original height readings after fitting, but 700mm from bottom of rim to wheel arch rings a bell, meaning the springs have settled around 10mm only giving a lift of 15mm.
