Forum Newbie - Love my eXy!!

Hi Everyone!

My partner, Belinda, and I got our X-Trail in January 06, a manual Ti-L (gotta love that enormous sun roof!) and immediatly took it out on tracks like Sunny Corner and Gardens of Stone just West of the Blue Mountains and out onto Stockton Beach. That holiday resulted in a cracked compressor in the air conditioning, every plastic shield under the car getting ripped off, muffler cracked and lots of other bits of damage totalling just under $6 grand to fix emoticon But we had a great time! Since then we've been a bit more sedate in our off road jaunts but we still go as often as possible.

We've named our eXy Logan after the character Wolverine (also known as Logan) from the X-Men movies. After all, Wolverine has a lot of characteristics in common with the X-Trail, don't you think?

We've got heaps of photos and some videos and I'd be happy to write up some trip reports if anyone is interested?

And thanks to the people who've set up this site and to all those who contribute to it. I've found heaps of answers to questions here and got heaps more value out of our eXy from the info posted here and from other peoples experiences. Thanks also to Belinda's brother Brendan (who also owns and eXy and steered us toward buying one in the first place) who also told us about this site, go Bren!

Eric.

Welcome and yes your trip trip reports and pics would be encouraging to others.$6,000 on repairs, I take my X-Trail (Silver Wolf) off road regularly & so far only a badly dented muffler. Is this your first 4by & do you have limited experience off road?

Hi Eric & Belinda and welcome to our forum.

Nice to see someone having so much fun with the exy and taking it to the X-Treme emoticon

6 grand seems like a lot of damage indeed, but then again I guess you have sourced all replacement parts from the dealers and that explains the price tag.

I remember pricing the plastic protection kit and that alone was priced at over $300 for the whole set.

I look forward to your trip reports, pics and videos and we can even create a profile page for you on the Main Site if you send us some pics.

Enjoy your stay here.

Welcome Eric & Belinda,

It's good to see more members not afraid to "have a go". I don't like the sounds of the $6000 damage - maybe you should've got a Patrol instead! emoticon

Seriously though, there are a few comparatively inexpensive modifications you could do to your X-Trail to help minimize the underbody damage - I'm sure you've already read the suspension lift and bash-plate threads...

Looking forward to seeing your videos, photos and stories, and meeting you at one of the meet-ups, if I ever make it to one!

Re: Forum Newbie - Love my eXy!!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Thankfully I managed to get all the repairs done under insurance so all I had to pay was the excess. I have no idea how I got away with it but they didn't ask how the damage happened and I wasn't about to explain it in detail. Thank God I'm with ....

Yes I have read the threads on getting lifts and bash plates. Both options seem like very wise ideas for me emoticon

I think I got carried away because I was in "convoy" with a Pajero driven by someone with a LOT more experience than me (this is indeed my first 4WD other than driving Hummers in the U.S. Army). The driver of the Pajero, of course, thought it was hilarious 8(

Unfortunatly I couldn't afford a Patrol so I guess I have to stop trying to drive like I'm in one.

Eric.
