Re: Car polish
Paul,
Can't wait to see the Black Exy with the nanowax coat make sure you capture the gloss in the photo as it is very hard to do . Always looks better in the flesh.

Re: Car polish
You would use exactly the same polish on the plastic panels just like the rest of the car. They're plastic to reduce the overall weight of the car and much easier to replace (cheaper) and also quite practical if you get hit with a trolley.
There are different types of polishes around, the polish you're referring to is hard compound polish which will indeed remove a layer of the paint, but there are many polishes around which are soft compound and can be used regularly without impacting the paint. My xtrail is black and it's a 2002 model and I have been polishing it quite regularly with Eagle One products.

Re: Car polish
I worked with an industrial chemist for a couple of years and he had a classic 64 toyota (can't remember what car it was) he told me never to was your car with any detergent as most detergents have a caustic solution in them and it's not very good for the paint. What he suggested was just wash the car in water only then use a cleaner wax the polish. this is what iv'e been doing for over 10years now and my cars/bikes have never looked better. On another thing, back in the late 80's when i was a 2 wheel maniac we used to use Mr Sheen to polish our bikes and gee talk about a very good quick polish.

Re: Car polish
Hi all,
I used this (and other) sites to decide on the best way to protect the new 'platinum' exy, and I ended up deciding on the AutoGlym range - marginally more expensive, but I like the fact they actually put a bit of the chemistry of their product out there so you can decide. They use a low molecular weight resin, which results in a somewhat tougher seal than your normal waxes, which can be softened in the hot Aussie summer. Not really a concern at the mo in Canberra with frosty mornings! You can tell when applying where it is a lot thinner than most waxes, and tries very hard indeed. And hey, if Queen Lizzie likes it on her Rolls, how bad can it be!
I went with the Extra Gloss Protection, which looks great, and was probably the easiest polish I have ever applied. A note with the expense of this product - a little goes a very long way and covers alot of car, so it pretty much works out even with most other cheaper but less capable products.
Anyway, next time I will use the Super Resin Polish before reapplying the gloss protector - probably in a few months time to build up a good protective coat and cover any of the tiny spots I may have missed... I figured I wouldnt need it the first time as the car is brand new and should still have all it's sealant in pristine condition.
Anyway - thought I would post so anyone considering this in a few months can ask me on how the product goes long term.
Cheers
Mark.
