Re: Car polish

ok, well following the recommendations from Jalal and the Maguires "doctor", I picked up some Maguires Nxt Generation Car Wash and a tube of Maguires Scratch X. (The scratchers from off road use were noted at the Xmas gathering.

Hopefully next weekend the weather will pick up and I will be able to do some work.

After the wash and scratch x I will be using Nano Wax, so will post pics of the results

fingers crossed!

Paul,
Can't wait to see the Black Exy with the nanowax coat make sure you capture the gloss in the photo as it is very hard to do . Always looks better in the flesh.

Re: Car polish

Hey just picked up my new Xtrail ST Platinum last week. After reading the posts on polish i bought some of the auto glym polish to give the car some lovin/protection. Man thats the best polish i have ever used. So easy to apply and take off. Previously I have been useing McGuires, but i find this stuff so much easier to remove. Their plastic care (armerall) is really good too.
I used to have a 1977 merc 450se that was in concourse condition. Best car i ever owned. I wish i knew about this polish back then

Re: Car polish

Howdy guys,

Wanted to ask your opinion if you think it is safe to use Eagle One Nanowax on the plastic/vinyl (not really sure about the material)areas where the back and front doors meet in the middle of the car and also the bottom molding of the doors and at the back of the car. I did try using it for those areas and it cleans them incredibly (cleaning all those finger prints) but still i'm curious whether it's safe or not (as i might be simply erasing tiny layer of the material which isn't really good)? Or if you guys are using any better alternatives for those areas (simple washing doesn't do a thing).

Cheers,
Serge.

Re: Car polish

Hi guys,

I have a BLACK 2005 Exy.

I read the whole thread and recall a mention on waxing/polishing the front plastic quarter panels, but I can't recall what should be used on them? (also why are they plastic? more durable/flexible in off-road environs?)

Call me a goose, but I thought waxing and polishing were two different things.

Washing - obviously just to remove grime/dust - Required: Regulary

Waxing - After washing to add a protective coating on the paintwork to extend the life of the paintwork and colour. - Required: Every second month (depending on conditions)

Polishing - to cut back the paint work slightly to bring the colour through and remove light scratching. Required: As needed but shouldn't be performed too regulary as it removes a layer of paint.

Is the above correct? I need to get it right as a black car shows up scratches pretty easily.

Re: Car polish

You would use exactly the same polish on the plastic panels just like the rest of the car. They're plastic to reduce the overall weight of the car and much easier to replace (cheaper) and also quite practical if you get hit with a trolley.

There are different types of polishes around, the polish you're referring to is hard compound polish which will indeed remove a layer of the paint, but there are many polishes around which are soft compound and can be used regularly without impacting the paint. My xtrail is black and it's a 2002 model and I have been polishing it quite regularly with Eagle One products.

Re: Car polish

I worked with an industrial chemist for a couple of years and he had a classic 64 toyota (can't remember what car it was) he told me never to was your car with any detergent as most detergents have a caustic solution in them and it's not very good for the paint. What he suggested was just wash the car in water only then use a cleaner wax the polish. this is what iv'e been doing for over 10years now and my cars/bikes have never looked better. On another thing, back in the late 80's when i was a 2 wheel maniac we used to use Mr Sheen to polish our bikes and gee talk about a very good quick polish.

Re: Car polish

Hi all,

I used this (and other) sites to decide on the best way to protect the new 'platinum' exy, and I ended up deciding on the AutoGlym range - marginally more expensive, but I like the fact they actually put a bit of the chemistry of their product out there so you can decide. They use a low molecular weight resin, which results in a somewhat tougher seal than your normal waxes, which can be softened in the hot Aussie summer. Not really a concern at the mo in Canberra with frosty mornings! emoticon You can tell when applying where it is a lot thinner than most waxes, and tries very hard indeed. And hey, if Queen Lizzie likes it on her Rolls, how bad can it be! emoticon

I went with the Extra Gloss Protection, which looks great, and was probably the easiest polish I have ever applied. A note with the expense of this product - a little goes a very long way and covers alot of car, so it pretty much works out even with most other cheaper but less capable products.

Anyway, next time I will use the Super Resin Polish before reapplying the gloss protector - probably in a few months time to build up a good protective coat and cover any of the tiny spots I may have missed... I figured I wouldnt need it the first time as the car is brand new and should still have all it's sealant in pristine condition.

Anyway - thought I would post so anyone considering this in a few months can ask me on how the product goes long term. emoticon

Cheers

Mark.

Re: Car polish

I have always been a fan of Autoglym and I believe the cost is justified.

My girlfriend just returned home from a xmas shopping adventure when I noticed that there was a wiped clean part on the side of Xtrail. Upon closer inspection there were great big scratches along the side of the car. Obviously, some moron had hit the car when trying to park and got out and whiped the xtrail to see how much damage they had caused.

I hit the scratches with Autoglym paint renovator and super resin polish and all the scratches have disappeared. Some of the scratches were quite deep-looking, a few millimetres wide and around 50cm long, so I was very impressed with the Autoglym products.

Now if only polish could remove dents....

Re: Car polish

Hey Guys,

Has anyone tried the following Maguires 4 stage process on their exy:-

(1) Next Gen Car Wash
(2) Paint Clean
(3) Polish
(4) Next Gen Tech Wax 2

All I've seen from other forums is very good reviews for these products (particularly Next Gen range).

Any thoughts?
