Headlights Aiming Adjustments

Hello,

With regards to the series 3 exy headlights. Can anyone advise how to make adjustments up/down and left/right. Looking at the rear of the assemblies there is what looks like 2 adjutment screws, the one at the top is exposed and the lower one is concelled.

Regards

Lloyd

Re: Headlights Aiming Adjustments

Lloyd,

The top one is for vertical and bottom is for horizontal adjustment.

The normal procedure is to tighten them and slowly loosen them.

BTW, what makes you want to adjust it? Is it the weak beam? If so, there is not much you can do about it, you'd try a brighter bulb though.

Re: Headlights Aiming Adjustments

Thanks for that William.

The reason is that the left side appears to be looking for possums in trees and not the footpath area.

When you say weak beam are you referring to the nice soft yellow glow given off by the head lights or the low beam. If the latter, does this mean I cannot adjust the low beam setting?

Regards

Lloyd,

You can still adjust the low beam setting, but be aware that dealer should be able to adjust it for free under warranty.

FYI, my left and right beams are slightly different ; left is a bit higher than right.

Re: Headlights Aiming Adjustments

Lloyd, the only reason I can think of that the headlights would need adjusting (with your example given of one headlight pointing to find possums) is if it had been in an accident. I'm probably not alone when I say how annoying it is when there's another car nearby with misadjusted headlight aim. Surely it is up to the smash repairer to realign the headlight aim, and I bet none of them bother even thinking about it (I've even seen Mercedes and other expensive cars with bad headlight aim)...

I'm sure it's listed in one of the ADR's where the headlights are meant to be aimed (set height and direction).

Re: Headlights Aiming Adjustments

basshead,

I am also annoyed by those that have poorly aimed headlights. And to add to my problem, I suspect the RH headlight is too high as I am constantly being flashed, and I have not touched them since picking it up new last Friday. It would seem that this one has slipped through the delivery or factory setup/check. I am taking it in for it's 1,000 K check tomorrow, will ask them to check them.

I would definitely get them to re-align the headlights. They've sold you a defective vehicle and they need to rectify it!

I don't mean to scare you (and am in no way implying this is your situation), but I'd be very suspicious of it's history... I've heard rumours over the years that sometimes brand new vehicles are damaged during transit to the dealership (driving on/off ships/containers/trucks or test-driven) and repaired before they are sold. What a scoop it would be for one of the current affairs programs if someone had proof (eg. NRMA report) stating a repaired vehicle had been sold to them as a brand new one! I expect it wouldn't go that far as Fair Trading would be the first to find out emoticon

My lights were cactus from new!! I had to drop them a tad to get them right. I just wish the high beam low beam were separate.

Anyway, using spotties has helped heaps.
