Re: Auto gear box lock
Are you referring to the auto Transmission Control Unit (TCU) found HERE?

Re: Auto gear box lock
If it was that cheap to do, it would have a very popular mod, somehow I have never heard of it being mentioned in any of the performance forums
Is the idea behind it the same as the TCU I mentioned?
By the way, this mod seems to be popular for drag racing! Are you up to something?

Re: Auto gear box lock
Hi Jalalski,
I was a bit thrown by the drag racing bit as I would see no use for it when drag racing, but now I believe that I understand what you were on about. I should have explained myself a bit better.
I believe you where referring to locking up your torque converter. So that it could be used in 1st and 2nd gear. This would be good for getting off the line a bit quicker. And looks like it would be quite simple to do, but this I’m not interested in.
What I’m interested in is locking the transmission into 4th gear, so when I go and give it a boot full at 100 or so, it doesn’t drop down to 3rd . The main advantage here is in you can use the full rev range in 4th gear. What I’m experiencing now is if I’m cruising around 140 and I want to accelerate, the girl drops down to 3rd and then takes off. And doesn’t want to change up until 165, or until I stop accelerating.
Anyway, I have been looking at the Transmission system in the book, and think I have worked out where to place the switch.
Thanks again anyway
Cheers Wally

Re: Auto gear box lock / gear holding
Hi Wally,
With all this talk about locking into a gear, it looks like you should have bought a "manual" exy as this is one advantage of the manual over the auto.
Also a cheaper option as well,

Re: Auto gear box lock / gear holding
No problems Wally, that is the reason I kept asking you if the TCU is what you meant
I now understand why this mod is limited in its exposure. Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to cruise on 140 (legally) and also accelerate further in our part of the world. hahaha
Noel: Did you ever try getting to 165 with your manual? LOL

I haven't been to the Northern Territory in the exy so I don’t think I will disclose here weather I have tried that or not in QLD,
