Am awaiting details on costs, seems it may be only available in NSW at the moment. Also coming soon, a luggage pod that will attach to the AXS arm. Sounds interesting. Have had a reply re the cost,(hope you are sitting down) It is $389 (cough, cough!!!!) I think I will be manufacturing my own if I decide I need it!!!!nondisclosed_email@example.com (waky53)Sun, 27 May 2007 00:31:55 +0000 Re: Bike Carrierhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000620,from=rss#post2000620https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000620,from=rss#post2000620Hi Jalal,          Yes this XP range from Rhinorack does come with an optional rear mounted brake light and number plate holder. I considered it at the time but was about another $90-$100 or so. I had already gone slightly over what i was intending to pay for a good setup, so i made my own holder out of some 6cm x 6cm x 3mm aluminum angle. Thick self adhesive reflective letters and numbers were used for rego. "U" shape cradle bolt similar to bike cradle was used to attatch at back of carrier. I normally mount the rego plate last so it does not hinder bike mounting, thus reason it was not in the pics. Really strong setup which can tilt when bikes are removed to access the Exy's tailgate.   nondisclosed_email@example.com (johnsey)Mon, 14 May 2007 21:04:10 +0000 Re: Bike Carrierhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000552,from=rss#post2000552https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000552,from=rss#post2000552Is there a bike rack number plate holder with this set-up?nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sun, 13 May 2007 21:11:10 +0000 Re: Bike Carrierhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000551,from=rss#post2000551https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000551,from=rss#post2000551Mounted the bike carrier today for a trip to the park with the family. Its a bit more expensive than some others but very versatile. The Swagman in the XP range fits into the 2" square hitch of a towbar. Available in 3 or 4 bike models, it allows individual adjusting rotating cradles so bikes can be carried level to the ground. Different bike frame angles are not a worry, as cradles are easy to adjust. The 4 bike version which i have was about the $240 18 months ago, and is solid as a rock. Highly recommended!!   nondisclosed_email@example.com (johnsey)Mon, 07 May 2007 21:09:08 +0000 Re: Bike Carrierhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000244,from=rss#post2000244https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000244,from=rss#post2000244Tony, I wish I had have thought of doing that! Its roof mounted and extremely easy to fit. Just take the racks off, remove the rubbers, cut the rubber in the desired area where you want the carrier to sit and then put it all back together. The brand I got was THULE. The model is 'outride 561'. $200 Because genuine nissan racks are rola brand then you will require an adapter kit, $20, all this is is two new bolts that slide in with the rubbers, not at all visible. I have no idea why Tony's 'proride' required drilling as this kit is what the sales assistant should have told you about. I asked about the proride and the guy said no drilling at all and was amazed that you had to. Anyway this is what it looks like, apologise for the dirty car. The bike I have has disc brakes and this rack is perfect.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Tague)Sat, 14 Apr 2007 11:00:40 +0000 Re: Bike Carrierhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p1997186,from=rss#post1997186https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p1997186,from=rss#post1997186Hi Guys, Thule has introduced a new swing-away bike rack that attached to the towbar hitch. If so what brand did you buy? and do you need to buy an adaptor to fit it to the factory roof racks? I recently found out that my mountain bike forks are too large to fit in the rear of the exy This a major pain as transporting my bike was one of the major reasons for buying the exy. It looks like when the bikes are off the carrier, the rear door of the exy would be able to be opened. It doesn't matter what size tubing the bike is made of 'cos the carrier doesn't grip the tubing, so the tubing & cables dont get damaged. The only part that may get scratched are the cranks. The only drawback is that they are a bit expensive. If you have welding experience (or a mate who can weld) you can buy just the crank holder & make your own bike carrier or fit them to a trailer if you want to transport the bike/s by trailer. see here Gripsport & look under products nondisclosed_email@example.com (waky53)Mon, 03 Jul 2006 22:09:27 +0000 Re: Bike Carrierhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p871806,from=rss#post871806https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p871806,from=rss#post871806Yes Geoff, that's the one. Yep, the bottom part stays on the towbar (for added protection ) The arms are very easy to tilt, it is only a matter of removing the locking pin from one side and then lifting both arms upwards so they dislodge from the base and the whole thing tilts towards you away from the tailgate.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Mon, 03 Jul 2006 16:35:59 +0000 Re: Bike Carrierhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p871805,from=rss#post871805https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p871805,from=rss#post871805 This one?: So I guess the flat part at the bottom stays on the tow bar, then the arms clip on. Got back to Australia a couple of weeks ago. Same xtrail, but boy was I glad to get back to it. In NZ we had a jap-import Toyota Caldina. A glorified shopping trolley. Cant get them in Australia and for good reason. Its a station wagon, with a 1.8 litre engine. We had the auto, which 2 weeks before we were due to sell it, the transfer lock started slipping. It started slipping in Ivercargill, and we had to make it back to Auckland. If your NZ geography is up to date, thats the length of the country and a good 2000+ km of mountainous country to traverse. At the start simply leaving O/D off was enough. By Wellington it was a case of keeping the revs above 4000 to make it "lock". That last 1000 km we were thrashing it. Using the T-bar as a stick-shift trying to stay above 4000 rpm and below the red line at 6000. Luckily I was able to sell it for the same price I paid for it minus the repair costs. So cant complain to much, but so nice to be back in the big, powerful, comfortable xtrail.nondisclosed_email@example.com (GeoffM)Mon, 03 Jul 2006 13:57:26 +0000 Re: Bike Carrierhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p871802,from=rss#post871802https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p871802,from=rss#post871802Nice to see you back on the forum Geoff Are you back in Australia and still driving the same exy? hehehe I got my bike rack from Repco and it is a tilt type but the base of it needs to be permanently attached to the tongue. I already have a tow bar, Hi GeoffM, I recently fitted a bike carrier to my exy via the towbar. If you have a towbar that has the square receiver for the towball then I would recommend the type that has a square mounting bar to fit directly into the towbar. To remove it all you have to do is remove the retaining pin and slide it out of the way. I bought mine from a towbar bullbar shop here in Adelaide. It holds three bikes and cost $125. The type that tilts out of the way usually means leaving a part permanantly attached to the towball and if you dont like leaving the towball attached all the time it makes it harder to store in the back of the exy. You cant tilt the bike carrier out of the way with a bike attached, but I have removed my square bar type with my bike still fitted to it, was heavy though. Hope this is of help to you.nondisclosed_email@example.com (JBMurf)Mon, 03 Jul 2006 12:18:54 +0000 Bike Carrierhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p871800,from=rss#post871800https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p871800,from=rss#post871800 I would like to put a bike carrier on the back of the 'trail.
