Re: Roof Box or Pod

I think I might choose a slightly shoter one.

I have plans for mounting electronics inside, as opposed to luggage so, the longer one may not be so advantageous.

Though from recent events I get the impression I may need to make provisions to be able to use it for such things as well. Might need to fit some clips and connectors.

but yes, good suggestion, but I feel a shorter one would suit my needs more that a long one with spacers.

Re: Roof Box or Pod

We have the Rola Rack 360 litre roof box, so far only used it once to the Grampians. Sat on or just below the speed limit and didn't notice a vast increase in fuel consumption. Have found they are great to store light camping items such as sleeping bags, camping chairs etc. Will get some more use over the holidays.

If you require extra storage and can't find a place for a trailer they are a good option for those weekend getaways. emoticon

Re:

I just bought a Pro Rack cage today. $109 from Super Crap, normally around $200. I like the idea of the cage as it is easier to tie stuff down in. As for weather getting into things it should not matter too much as most of the stuff will be in sealable bags of wrap everything up in a tarp or doesnt matter if it gets wet.

Re: Roof Box or Pod

I just ordered the Rhino roof cage should have it next week, it's only for stuff that's unfazed by water. Looking forward to having more space for camping.

Re: Roof Box or Pod

I got an all-weather luggage bag from Alan (rescue1) for my roof basket.
Easier to have stuff all in the one bag which clips onto the roof basket cage and then use an ctopus net to hold it all down when the bag is not completely full.

Re: Roof pod vs platform

Aldi will have a pod for $199 from Sat 21st June 2014.
Has a 5 yr warranty.

But thinking a platform may be better, as could put tent or kayak or baggage bag up there, so more versatile.

Like the platform rather than basket as don't have to lift up and over, and weight distributed over base if a long load.

Would most useful when self, partner and dog going away- need lots of "stuff".
Have to rationalise what we would take and where to put it.
New fridge and battery box great but take up loads of room. (But love the cold champers..camping is tough).
Maybe need a smaller dog than the enormous boxer currently hogging the back seat.

How have others configured it?
