Re: Snatching from sand
bevnles,
This has already been discussed, try RECOVERY POINTS
Depending on how soft the sand is and how far you intend travelling, lowering tyre pressure to about 15psi will help alot. However if you are fully loaded, this could be too low and may damage your tyres. If fully loaded, try about 20psi in the rear. Just make sure you are able to reinflate the tyres to the correct presures.
Don't run in in 'LOCK' mode unless you really have to. Simple 'AUTO' mode will do and won't effect your fuel economy that much either.
The front recovery hooks will surfice for recovery of the exee without any problems. They are connected straight to the main chasis rail, with nice big bolts. If you have any doubts, pull one of the bolts off and visit a local heavy industry hardware or similar and try and get load bearing bolts.
To lessen the pressures on these hooks, drop into a 4wd store and pick up a 'load equalling strap', which is connected between both front recovery hooks, thus spreading the weight at each point. I use one on my larger Pajero and it is great. It also allows you to be pulled in a straight direction and not along the path of the single hook.
So where are you off to. Make sure you post some pics when you get back...but most of all, enjoy it.
