Re: GPS input

Sorry for the late response, I've been spending most of my time installing the new stereo! (Fully integrated DVD/radio/SatNav, etc etc)

The terminal concerned comes from the CAN system of the car, so don't expect any normal voltage readings. It's nothing like the speedo which relies on voltage fluctuations to register speed.

I'm not a electrical engineer, just a plain ol' mechanic and I know that my system works a treat with this hook up.

The only thing I don't like about it is I have to use the screen supplied at this stage because it utilises a VGA plug setup which is not compatible with my DVD/radio unit. THis uses a RCA input and I need to get a specialised adapter for it to work properly. Basically the sync is an issue. If anyone can help in this regard, let me know.

AJ, is this of any help to you: VGA to Video converter The only problem I can foresee is it's power requirement (from the computer keyboard), but it might be as simple as finding out what voltage goes to PC keyboards and making up a little plug adaptor (or there are Jaycar/DSE kits that can step down 12vDC to any voltage below that).

I amaze myself at some of the websites I remember emoticon

Re: GPS input

Thanks, for the info Rich, but now un-necessary. I have my new Blaupunkt setup and all I need to do is wait for a cable to come from Dorans. Photos are on the way.

Just a small note, they have Blaupunkt speakers that fit perfectly in the Exy holes and are extra shallow. They are the top of the line units, but are priced at about $150 a pair.
I heard a set the other day and sound reaaaallly nice. Rated 70W with 210W peak.
Soon as the ball and chain gives me the go-ahead, they are being fitted. ( I know Jalal, this has nothing to do with GPS.sorry)

Re: GPS input

AJ, that's good to know and that's a bargain price, too (I'm tempted to get them myself, but I don't think I'd be allowed, or be able to sneakily install them without them being noticed). With those power ratings they seem equally suitable to run straight from the head unit or powered through a separate amplifier... Good choice of supplier, too (I've known Tony for many years).

I wont add any further comments as it's gone off-topic, and you probably should copy your post to the relevant stereo thread emoticon

I am about to get a Pioneer double din GPS/ DVD unit to install in the exy. Has any one got a definitive answer for hooking into the speedo pulse signal on a series 2 yet ?

But firstly this weekend I will be fitting a Mongoose add on alarm system ( MAP80G )

Re: GPS input

Here is a product from ncs-systems (in UK I presume as costs are in pounds) which produce a CANbus interface for many vehicles, including the Xtrail. The interface gives speed, rpm, ignition, & handbrake signals. Don't know where in Oz you could get one though so you may have to order from them.

Re: GPS input

Hmm, that's about $134 at current rates plus postage.

Direct link to CANM8-PULSE

I am VERY tempted. I was thinking about selling my vehicle dynamics processor because a lot of the functions are not available due to not having the speed pulse connected. This would get the whole thing working!

OK, OK, you have twisted my arm! Mark, if you are going to get some then yes I will get one too to save on postage.

Can you find out from the them what postage to Aus will be?

Thanks!
