Phone is Motorola, so got the Motorola kit (HF850) which doesn't connect to the radio by the way (the shop assistant said it did) but then none of us have worked out the wiring for an input to the series 1 ST head unit anyway. Where to put it? Since I usually carry the phone in the compartment in front of the driver, under this seemed like not a bad idea. The whole compartment lifts out easily, and behind it there is wiring for the accessory plug inside the compartment (ignition on power); a good earth point and not far to the brake light switch wiring (always on power). Decided to use these since this is a low current draw application, and additional fuses are wired in. Clamped and soldered all joints. Used a couple of plastic ties to attach the unit to the main harness "hose" - be careful to keep it to the right so as to allow room for the back of the accessory socket when you put the compartment back in. The microphone clip fits neatly onto the headlining near the reading lights (and its easy to thread the wire up behind the plastic fascia on the front pillar and across the front edge of the headlining without removing these). The controller sits easily on the shelf in front of the driver with a little application of the round file to the silver cover strip (though its blue light is a bit bright at night - have to solve that somehow). And whilst it might appear a bit agricultural, no-one is going to see the speaker mount - a flat strip attached to the existing bolt under the driver's seat. All seems to work fine, but it did echo when I turned it too loud and the microphone picked up sound from the speaker. nondisclosed_email@example.com (David M)Thu, 04 May 2006 15:42:26 +0000
