Re: Handling modifications

Hey Matt,

Interesting idea to design these and quite a coincidence form me....

I have recently had a vibration in the front end of my X trail, which turned out to be a wheel balance problem. But while trying to sort out the cause I came across 4 worn front suspensions bushes (rubber, ~47,000km).

I asked at Pedder's if they had replacement and they don't, even in rubber. Additionally, Nissan will only sell the whole lower control arm at around $250.

I had my Nissan dealership inspect the bushes during a service the next week. They reported they had removed the bushes and found the cracking to be only surface cracking, hence not needing replacement. What are your thoughts?

Given I think mine are failing I would be interested in trialling the polyurethane bushes to see if they make any difference to my standard X Trail, although I running 235 tyres on 16in rims and the obligatory strut brace (along with a a K&N filter and hiclone). Let me know if you want a guinea pig in Perth who does mainly sealed road driving with some time on gravel tracks.

Re: Handling modifications

Been a while since I posted as my Exy has had the motor and gearbox out. Yep, they have to come out as a full unit like a GTiR Pulsar.

So anyway, been playing with the lower control arm setting over the last week(finally went offroad in the beast near Grafton, Pebbly Beach?)

The control arm bush modification seems to be a good thing, with a much more resposive turn it and more stable on the highway. Give it the big thumbs up.

Should not be too long before it sees approval for sale in Australia.

Robs: Where abouts were these 4 bushes located... I suspect they are your front swaybar link bushes and replacement bushes cost around $25 plus an hour to fit.

Re: Handling modifications

A question re swaybars for the Exy.
If fitting only one, what would be be the best one to change, the front or rear?
I had one on my rear wheel drive corolla years ago & that was a front one if I recall.
After returning the Hiclone & getting the refund & I am half way to paying for one & was trying to figure out which end would be more effective to install.

Re: Handling modifications

Dave,

If you have a front strut bar already, I'd say go for the rear swaybar.

Just my personal opinion.

Re: Handling modifications

for sure mate, i dropped mine about 12 inches and whacked a set of 28" rims on! the best part was it was free and only took about 15 minutes!

sorry dude but its all due to the wonders of photoshop emoticon In real life my exy rolls on 16's and has stock ride height... one day....

Re: Handling modifications

Dave,

May I ask why would you want to do that to a 4WD/SUV? emoticon

Lowering the exy is very popular in Indonesia, so you will find helpful hints there.

Re: Handling modifications

Jalal,
My Pulsar SLX was lowered my U13 Bluebird was I always wanted an atessa 4x4 turbo the X-trail was the obvious choice as the Atessa never came here, as you are aware I have road going performance tyres on the Exy this mod was going to happen there were just priority mods in front of this mod. I look on the Malaysian forum I should have looked there first as this is a comon place to visit as well. Thanks Jalal
PS: do you get sick of people saying "Thanks Jalal" as this would be one of the most comon quotes in the forum.
