AC Fan speed controls

Hey people

I was just wondering if anyone has had any issues with their fan speed controls on the AC panel??? When I bought it 2nd hand I think No.1 speed was just real soft, however after drivin around a week or two, the No.2 speed failed to work, which had been working since i got it. Anywho I havent been bothered to rip it out and check the wires on the back, i got my Major comin up soon and will let them look at it, (its under extended warrenty)
So yer without knowing the history of the car i got no clue why it would be buggered.

Cheers
Benn

Re: AC Fan speed controls

Hi Benn,

I haven't had this problem with my exy, however I had this exact same prob with my old Camry. Fan speeds 1 and 2 failed to work although 3 and 4 did work.

It turned out to be a small resistor board which controled the fan speeds.

On the X-Trail it looks different although it looks like your problem could be caused by a faulty "Fan Control Amplifier"

Here is the location of it:

Benn,

You could be experiencing what Nathan has experienced with his fan control switch.

Read all about it HERE

Hi Benn,

Now a question for you: Is your exy an ST or TI ??

Here is another example why we ask members to update their signatures to include your X-Trail's year and model. The more we know about your exy, the better we can answer your questions, emoticon

How to change your signature: CLICK HERE

Re: AC Fan speed controls

I know this post is a couple of years old now, - but I have just run into the same problem of selection 2 on the fan control not working (all others are ok - I have a 2002 ST Auto). Just bought the car 2nd hand and although it is under 100,000k I'm guessing its out of warranty because of its age.

So - in an effort to fix it myself - does anyone know the part that is at fault in this situation (ie. is it the resistor board or the switch itself?) and how would I go about repairing it?

Any helpful comments would be apprecicated!

Yes, you can fix it yourself if you buy the fan selector relay/switch which in your case would have melted. See the part numbers and information in THIS thread.

No problems at all and no need to appologise.
We encourage members to repost in existing threads so that everyone can find useful information for the same problem in the one place.

Thankyou.

Re: AC Fan speed controls

Pulled apart the fan selector relay/switch over the weekend and noticed no sign of melting - and have also and swapped it for another 2nd hand switch and resistor board but the same issue exists (when I select speed setting 2 - the fan stops).

I beleive that the issue may be at the other end (the fan itself or whatever controls the fan speed at the other end).

Does anyone know how the other end (where the fan itself is) works... and where abouts this is located?

Re: AC Fan speed controls

Did you actually go and buy a resistor or used a second-hand one? Replacing the fan switch is not enough, as the resistor could be blown and these are better bought new rather than second-hand, as the previous xtrail might have had exactly the same issue.

If there was something wrong with the fan it simply wouldn't turn at all, regardless of the speed setting.
