Re: speaker wiring

Best way to check what wires go where is to get a AA battery and connect wires to battery and hear where the noise is coming from.
If the speaker cone comes out towards you, the wire connected to the + of battery is the positive wire of speaker.

Tim,

On a series II Ti it is as follows ...

They are in coloured pairs, one being plain (+ve) the other with a black stripe (-ve) ...

Grey = Front Left
White = Rear Left
Purple = Front Right
Green = Rear Right

These are the colors of the wires directly into the back of the head unit (in-dash cd stacker).

Re: speaker wiring

 I am in the process of replacing the standard speakers to better Clarion splits in the front and 4 ways in the rear doors, but the standard speaker wires (can't call them cables) seem very inadequate. (read: thin)

 Has anyone replaced the speaker wires to better quality ones.

 Do I need to fit an adaptor at the rear of the head unit (which is the standard Nissan one), because without one, I will have to just splice into the standard thin wire. This seems to defeat the purpose of increasing the diameter and quality.

 Any advice is appreciated... emoticon

Re: speaker wiring

i changed mine to some nice thick cable from JB HiFi. Getting it through the door gromets/ rubber cable routing thing (!) is a mission!

As for the back of the deck..... you will need to splice into the standard wires, I dont think there is any other way to do it, except for changing your deck and running the speakers through an external amp.

If you will be keeping the stock head unit, you will get away with the standard speaker wires.

Re: speaker wiring

Thanks Matt - Are you running the Nissan head unit or another.
What do you mean that I can get away with the stock wires ???
They seem very thin for the job.

Re: speaker wiring

Ive got a Pioneer dvd/TV.

Bigger speaker wires will be better, but seeing as you need to splice into the stock deck you wont get the full benifets of the thicker wires. At this stage in your stereo mods it wont make a noticable difference.

hope that makes sence emoticon basicly it wont hurt change the wires.....

Re: speaker wiring

Brett sent me a PM and I replied by PM, but thought I'd copy it here for the benefit of others...

Matt pretty much summed up what I said to Brett emoticon

The adaptor is usually used when you buy an after-market head unit and want to connect it to the factory wiring loom. The factory wiring loom speaker wires would be adequate for the power output of the standard head unit, so upgrading the wires wouldn't achieve much (certainly not noticeable, anyway). You'd only really need to run new speaker wires if you're connecting up an amplifier (and new speakers, of course).

Given your situation (assuming you're just upgrading speakers while retaining the factory head unit), the money you might've spent on new speaker wires would be better off spending on abit of sound deadener/insulation as mentioned before (in a previous PM) - at least that would be a noticeable difference, but even just upgrading the speakers would be a considerable difference in sound.

I have some spare sound deadener I want to put in the doors - it will make the factory speakers sound much better, and wont cost me a cent - I just have to find the time to do it! And knowing me, I'll want to go overboard, and end up buying more sound deadener to do the job properly, and then when I've got the door trims off, I'll then want to replace the speakers, too!
