Roof rack Tray top

hi I bought a Tray top today from Supercheap Auto for $149 126cm x 96cm. which fits on my two racks. The problem being the brackets supplied are to small to go around the racks.

So I went shopping for some new ones ha ha ha no chance, I have been to every place I can think of, even Bunnings with no luck. not even those u shaped things (name forgotten) cam close.

my neighbour suggest I makes some holes in the racks?????????????? I think this would work but.... would they rust???? any other problems I should think about???

cheers

Richard

Re: Roof rack Tray top

Hi Rich,

Surely the manufacturer of the tray top would have accounted for the variety of roof racks and may have different brackets to suit your needs. Have you tried approaching SuperCheap or the manufacturer of the tray top for help?

If all fails and you have no option but to drill your roof racks, make sure you have some sort of a rubber fitting around the bolts to stop any water getting inside the racks which may cause rust in the long run and apply some silicone around the hole too.

Ever considered buying some long bolts, or a length of "all thread" and bending it to spec on a vice or similar?
